last night when i was brushing larry, i accidentally popped in the side of the face with the brush. i felt awful. :( :( this morning it looks swollen beside his nose, under his eye. is this a big cause for concern?

my sweetie looks a little like mustafa, or however u spell it. i pray he looks bttr tomorrow.

If his eye looks okay, and he is eating okay, I would not worry too much and just wait and see. That being said, how hard to you think he got hit? if you really whacked him hard, I suppose there could be a fracture there, but by what you describe, I doubt that. Hard to tell from here, lol

his eye looks ok yes. i dont know how to explain it. somehow the brush slipped and whacked him i know it hurt :( i told him i was sorry a million times. i thot today it would be fine. he was still sleeping in my bed this morning (nvr has since FD) and not up waiting for food. i thot, oh good, i bet his bg is lower! and its super high. so i got to looking at his little face, and its like, instead of his nose bridge just being higher in the middle, its a little higher under his eye, and the little nose bridge is higher over to the side where i hit i guess :((((((((( (so idk if thats why he slept in) no way to type this out. its not awful, but it looks like if u got hit in the eye beside ur nose, i guess. :( im pretty sure it hurts bc he usually rubs that side of his nose and whiskers on my hand. he went to do that, and pulled back. :(
btw, if/when i do call the vet, what do u say when u have done all this dosage increase and all on ur own? he was going to help me, of course, but i havent talked to him since i saw him. thanks.

Is he eating and breathing okay? Will he let you touch it without flinching? If yes then he's probably sore and maybe bruised if it was a hard hit. If it hurts it could inflate his numbers for a couple days but shouldn't be to much of a problem. Pain raises BGs.

eats, breathes, lets me touch it. a little gun shy, acts like its sore, but doesnt refuse touch. i just hope thats not why he slept in. since he was high, not sure why he was so mellow this morning. i wish i had another human, a pair of eyes, or even ears for things like this, here in person. hard to figure everything out on ur own, and jst with typing stuff out. u feel deaf, and blind almost. i do. i sure appreciate u all. :) otherwise i would have nothing. :)

Real easy just print out your spreadsheet and give him a copy or email him a link to it. And tell him you've been monitoring at home and here are the readings. Now that said some vets are open to working as a partner with their clients and some aren't. If he's the later then it's time to go vet shopping. Even the best vets in the world are often not real well versed in FD. Mostly because they just don't see it very often and even fewer owners willing to treat let alone home test. The really great ones are willing to work with you and learn along with you.

When I first adopted Maxwell my vet still prescribed prescription DM dry and used NPH. Now they hand out our food lists not only to new sugarcat owners but to new cat owners along with raw recipes. They support feeding raw and prescribe Lantus and Levemir. They even call me to teach new owners to home test.

its hard to know how to word that on the phn. i guess i will say the forum has helped me. he was willing, but i nvr used him, i used u guys. it jst feels awkward. i doubt he minds. he just might wonder. hes a good vet. i plan to keep him, unless something unimaginable happens.
i wish sum1 else could look at this. poor kitty. i thot he got hit in the whisker area, but its his nose bridge. has a bump on it and swollen under the eye. i may have to call them jst for sum1 to talk to, and have a conversation. cant explain by typing really. i cant stand the thot of him hurting, but u cant put an icepack on kitty nose. :(

Might not be a bad idea to just call and talk to him. He can probably tell you better if he thinks he needs to see him or not and even give you a better idea of what you can give him for pain.

And while you have him on the phone casually offer to email him a link to Larry's spreadsheet so he can keep tabs on him as well. Heck even offer a link to this forum. We love having vets join and read up on what we know. :-D

yea i was going to email him the SS after he visited. just been overwhelmed and nvr did that. plus i didnt know how to involve him if i was going to get help here. not sure how u would do both. i either listen to u all, or him.

Or both and take what works for Larry. All sources of information are valid. We can only tell you what works for our own cats. Based on our own experience. Just like a human diabetic its a partnership between patients and medical professionals. They can learn tips and tricks from other human diabetics but they have to learn what works for their own bodies. No two humans are exactly alike just like no two cats are alike.

After having 5 diabetic cats I can tell you what worked for Maxwell didn't work for Musette, nor what worked for them worked for Autumn or Cassanova. The steps to the dance were the same in that giving insulin, home testing, and proper diet everything else was learning process with every new sugarcat. Every time I adopted a new sugarcat I'm a newbie all over again until I learn how their going to react to treatment.

true. last time i didnt listen to the vet tho, bc every1 on the forum told me to do differently. so usually the choices r opposing.
lair was purring super loud and swallowing strange. i chkd and hes 361. he doesnt seem to feel well. idk if its what i did? :(
im supposed to leave shortly but almost afraid to. idk what he needs.

Swallowing strange how? Does his purr sound like his normal purr just loud? And have you checked for ketones recently?

now he stopped it all. just a loud purr.
havent chkd ketones. trying to catch him in the box and get him to let me.
let me see if i can smell it. i guess i just pry his mouth open? its always been normal. if i smell it, will call vet asap.

If it smells like anything other than good old stinky catfood breath get him to the vet's asap. I'd rather it be a false alarm than having him going into DKA. And ignoring it.

i got him to lick my hand and face. smell nothing but yucky cat food.
hes still twitching a little too, sometimes. first noticed it abt 2 wks. ago. hes laying on the bed, and hell twitch his whiskers, and or ears, sometimes blink his eyes.kinda like if sum1 sprinkled water in ur face, how u would wince. then he started to groom, stuck his little tongue out, then stopped, and kept his tongue barely out. just odd little things. i read where ppl, and other cats sometimes do that on lantus. its not awful. just odd.

the vet said to just watch his nose area :( i feel like such a jerk. how did i hurt my baby like this? ive been trying to brush him to be sure he isnt afraid of it, and doesnt think i will hurt him. makes me sad.

Accidents happen. I've stepped on mine, dropped things on them. Clunked them when they've suddenly jumped up on the sink while brushing my hair etc. They usually act more hurt and offended than they really are. And I bend over backwards apologizing to them to the point that about half the time I think they do it on purpose just to sucker me out of extra treats.

I can not even count the times I have accidentally smacked or kicked or knocked or slammed Bing!!! And he keeps coming back for more. Accidents happen and we all survive. They forgive us for hitting them - but not for going away. Don't beat yourself up over it. Remember all the care and attention you are giving him in regards to his FD.
