3/12 New Member - cat going blind after Hypo

Hi everyone! My cat had a hypo attack a week ago and was given a glucose drip at the vet but when we brought her home she was constantly bumping into things like she couldn't see. Its been a week and her vision still hasn't approved. I will be checking in with the vet again but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this? Im really scared that she might go permanently blind.

I am so sorry to hear about your Kitty, what insulin are you giving what dose? Are you home testing? What reason did your vet gave you for a glucose drip? Besides being hypo?? For how long was the drip? A hypo episode can be taken care of with a quick fix by rubbing honey or Karo syrup on the gums , then testing in 1/2 hour, and feed small amount of food and repeat until safe numbers, what was your cats’ glucose level? At the time of hypo

What insulin is your cat on? What was the dose that sent your cat into a hypo? Are you still giving insulin right now at the same dose or did your vet reduce the dose? Do you test blood glucose levels daily at home? How long has your cat been diabetic?

Rover had a symptomatic hypo once. He walked in a straight line bumping into things. We loaded him up with corn syrup and raced to the emergency vet. It was a temporary blindness. It was gone by the time we got to the emergency vet. The vet performed a very simple test: take a cotton puff and drop it from the side so the cat's peripheral vision should catch sight of it. Do the other side. Then in front of the cat. A cotton puff is light enough not to disturb the air as it goes by.
