3/11/18 thread - discomfort, gagging, no appy, heart/resp/nausea advise

Amps 262, 0.1u, 2c bkfst plus 13c and evo and chicken. He wouldn't eat anything. Spoon fed 2 tsp 12c ok and ate about 3 pieces evo. Syringed water x2.
Antibiotic, appy, tummy, nausea meds in pill pockets.

Started day promising, he had come out of closet on his own and was sitting in middle of room looking pretty good and breathing nicely. Gave him kisses and said I'd be right back. Back with insulin and sock and he's missing. Under part of bed I can't reach. Nothing draw him out. No kibble or really bad contraband. Couldn't push him with long dust thing. Got drooler Jax to chase him out. No go. Just laid there. Got bigger pole and pushed out other side. Came around and picked him up. Whole time he did nothing. Test crazy high. Pill pockets have to be fought over again. Now he's agitated and breathing weird. Syringing water. Offer chicken, nope. Evo, nope. 2c, 13c, mature, nope. Open 12c (ad) and he accepts being spoon fed. Ate 2tsp. Elevated his dish to see if more comfortable. No go. Put him in window. His food dish and a water dish nearby, which He sniffed liked he really wanted but couldn't! Put 3 pieces mature in front of him and he sniffed and licked but acts like he CAN'T eat.
He had one spasm, gag attack in window, very short duration. Syringed some water and gave loving. This one passed really quickly. His breathing is labored but he is laying in the sun for now.
He just moved over to the water dish and pawed it, but when he lowered his head He didn't drink. He just got in and out of box, nothing came out.
Brave happy face fur him, but each time I walk away I burst into tears. I'm so upset for him and so scared....

Poor Myagi. You probably need to do syringe feeding to get some food in him. We had to do that with Leo last year, and we got him thru a low point of his sickness. Most of the syringed food went elsewhere, but some got in him. And it gave him the energy to recover.

Healing vines for Myagi and you.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I’m so sorry, sweetie. All of these things make me believe he needs to see a vet. I worry with the hiding. I worry with the gagging/spasms, the breathing, inappetance, etc.

While many of these symptoms can be pancreatitis, the breathing and spasms are not. I have had enough cats with heart issues that I would rather be over cautious and find it’s nothing heart related than risk it.

Possible to get him in to have the heart listened to and X-ray done? While echos are best, they can still see an enlarged heart or fluid with an X-ray. A cardiopet probnp test can give you good info as well without the cost of an echo.

Hugs galore for you and vines for Myagi.

+3.4 304, miralax in water and syringed 3x. He's resting in window.

At +1.5 He was on floor and I could hear him breathing like a whistle, no rattle or gravel or gargle.

Now his breathing sounds fine but he's periodically sneezing and a couple of the sneezes sound like his nose is super congested.

I know treatment is good but I feel like I've thrown the kitchen sink at him, and that's not good. I wish the syringe feeding was sufficient, but it proved not to be. He needs something..... waiting to hear from Chris and Jenna about vet or ER. Necessary mom errand, so have to step out. Pray he rests comfortably (seems ok at moment) and poop and eats. :bighug::bighug:

Ach Heidi.

Hopefully Chris and Jenna will get back to you very soon.

Perhaps a bit of a chest/tract infection on the go there.

Big huge hugs Heidi :bighug:.

I hope they get back to you soon. I know how stressful and upsetting this must be for you right now. :( If you get back to the vet, would be good to ask about nausea and cerenia or onda to have on hand for it, there’s obviously some other things going on right now, but nausea could be the symptom of one of those things and why he won’t eat.

Sending stay strong, love, hugs and recovery vines to you and Myagi! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Piling on the get better vines for Myagi. :bighug::bighug: Hanging out by the water bowl can be a sign of nausea. Unfortuantely, that is also a symptom of a heart condition. I hope you can get him in to see a vet.

More healing vines for you. I hope Myagi can pull through this one. If he does, give him some hugs from me too.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I noticed you talked about your past kitty with heart failure and fluids and oxygen.
Could you tell Heidi your experience and what to expect please?
She said he has pleural effusion and is in oxygen cage.
Hope she responds with good news soon.
I think she went home but Myagi is in hospital for tonight.
Hugs

Update on Myagi

Vet thinks he may have some heart disease that caused fluid to build up around his lungs, but the we're waiting to see a cardiologist tomorrow for more information.

They don't think the fluids that Heidi gave (or the other vet) would have caused it but the extra fluids would exacerbate the heart disease.

Myagi is spending the night in an oxygen cage to make it easier for him to breathe and they're going to remove some of the fluid for testing.

He was brought out to Heidi before she had to leave for the night and she said he still had some fight left in him!!

Tomorrow we'll see what the cardiologist has to say and go from there. Depending on that, he may need an ultrasound on top of the other testing.

Keep those vines coming!!

Thank you DCIN and Chris. :bighug:

@Darnell & Sprocket With Neko I had two separate incidents of heart issues. Both went differently, but both were brought on by giving fluids when the heart couldn't handle it. Not sure my experience is relevant. Depends on the underlying heart issue that Myagi is dealing with. The cardio visit will be telling.

Thinking of you Heidi. :bighug::bighug: Myagi is in the best place for him now.
