Good evening :)

Phew I've been having quite a tough week and it's only the middle of it :banghead: But I was lucky enough to have DH taking care of Fistuk at night and I slept in his study for the past couple of nights to have a full night sleep. I'm so not used to sleep anymore that at 5am I was already up and ready.

It's been 10 cycles on this dose and Fistuk is swinging between blue and green but it seems like it's hard to see the pattern. His patterns used to be so much clearer to me where no he can get low or higher at any point in the cycle :(

Fistuk is still getting the cranberry treatment. We'll get another urine test at the end of the week and he'll continue to have the cranberry extract for another week.

Can the FLUDT be responsible for this inconsistent numbers?

Thank you all for being always so supportive. I will catch up with you all :bighug::bighug::bighug:

wishing you a good night :cat::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh no, I am so sorry Fistuk has FLUDT, that is really painful and I wouldn't hesitate to believe it could raise his BG numbers. (Though his SS doesn't look terrible!) I hope he responds to treatment. Do you notice less crying in the litter box? :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

You are very fortunate to have a DH that can take over so you can get your rest!!! That is so important to get your sleep!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sorry to hear you've been having a rough week so far. Hopefully it gets better.
And Fistuk's numbers aren't looking too bad considering his state. I think he's doing well.
Please thank that boy and Prince for all their licks and kisses yesterday. Definitely helped make me feel better.

Wishing you a restful night.

Thanks for checking in on us, Ruth :joyful:
Fistuk doesn’t yowl at all. The reason I suspected something was that one morning he owes on the carpet and then has some yowls outside of the box, just walking around.
Ph with urine stick c add me out 5 which is good. Vet took urine for lab and the silts were rather good : USG 1028 a bit of protein and some low hemoglobin. So she concluded FLUTD. We give him the cranberry extract which she reckons will be enough. She also knows I’m very against antibiotics and doesn’t like pushing it in as if it was cereal. She didn’t think it was needed and Fistuk doesn’t seem to me like he’s in pain.
He strains less when he owes and doubled in the water I add to each meal. She said that water is basically the best treatment and it aligns with what I read from the links @Bandit's Mom gave me.

is it really FLUTD? I don’t know. Maybe a very mild case? Maybe (finally) we caught something before it became a big issue.

thanks for the encouragement on his SS. I’m aware that he’s looking rather well. Thinking about where he started with all the horrific ketones episodes with hospital I’m absolutely grateful. AND I want to see if we can get him to remission.
I remember @Rainbow Conti writing that her goal was to lo let her little one be who he’s meant to be. I’m a therpaist! And that’s how I work with people. And when it comes to Fistuk I meet my own limitations. I find it so difficult to not want remission for him. I’m sure I’ll go through whatever process needed with him and it’s not that I’m not happy with him. But I won’t lie and say that all the round the clock care is not a strain. I would like to go on some go day during the summer even if just to visit my mother in law in Italy and pick the fruits in the land and I’m finding it so difficult to even think of leaving Fistuk with someone else. Just the bare thought fills me with anxiety. It’s hard!

It’s been nearly 8 months since Dx. Times flies. The start was extremely rough and I’ve lost a few good lilies just from stress and luck of sleep and I don’t have much to loss to start with. If we can get to a place where Fistuk is more independent again and I get more sleep and life I guess remission won’t be such a whiner North Star.

Phew that came out pouring :banghead:;)
Thanks for your encouragement and care. Without you guys and my DH I don’t know how it’s be able to cope :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I’m happy to hear licks and kisses helped :joyful: they can also send some paw massage :woot: Fistuk is especially good at that.
I hope you’re feeling bit better.
I have Friday rather off and I’m looking forward to it. I haven’t schedule anything besides one meeting in the morning with a person I like very much so it’ll be very nourishing to spend time with him :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Shelly!
I understand all you are writing. It is such a long journey, and tehy depend on us. But he is doing well, and you can leave him for a few days, he will be fine. It was so hard the first time I left Bella after her diagnosis. My mum (and the rest of my family, too) is in France, she is not coming anymore because she is 88 and there was COVID and all that. We decided to go visit her in 2022, and Bella did great with her sitter who came twice a day. For 3 weeks. Of course I felt bad, I was decreasing her dose regularly before the trip and it stopped after, but now I can see that that can happen anytime, whatever the reason is, there is nothing you can predict. So all that to say, you will be a better caregiver if you take care of yourself first. You know as the tell us in planes, put your oxygen mask first and then help others :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Cecile :)
Thanks for sharing and for understanding.
I hear what you're saying yet I still feel at the moment as if it's going to be very difficult. When I wake up at night a couple of times because he asks for food I think to myself "who is going to do that when I'm going?Could I find a person who'd stay here and do this for him?"
It's something I'll need to figure out somehow. But yes, the understanding that I'll need a break and a holiday is for the good of everyone. I'm no good if I'm completely run down :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Dear Shelley,

Oh my heart goes out to you, :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:feline diabetes alone is just so difficult to deal with but having other aging kitty challenges makes your jobs even tougher. Your vet is wise not to overload on the antibiotics. So many U.S. vets and human doctors as well, simply push antibiotics for everything that comes up. And you were right on it from the start and that is very hard to do so it doesn't become an emergency!

I had already noticed that you and Fistuk were very early in your journey here but in that short time, have come a long way! I suspect most of us here are "fixers", wanting remission, watching so many other kitties achieve it and when it doesn't happen, we feel like a failure. If I could go back to 2015, I wish I would have been more grateful for the blessing of having my beautiful kitty Tiger with me for almost 18 years and the hell with the remission goals and all her other problems.:arghh: Instead I focused on "fixing" all of it and to this day I feel I missed the cues of her impending cancer and that is what took her from me. I love what @Rainbow Conti said about letting LM be who he was meant to be, but my self back then just could not understand that:-(

Taking care of a diabetic is 24/7 and is very stressful, yes indeed! And since you are working full time, I can just imagine the added stress of having to leave the house with dropping numbers and such! My well-meaning friends and especially my family kept nagging me that Tiger was too much of a burden, I should just either leave her alone or put her down. Needless to say, I was very out of touch with any of them after hearing that bunch of B.S. I did however discover that my vet clinic has a service for boarding that operates 24/7. They monitor, you can choose the size of the kitty condo, arrange for out of the condo exercizes, time in the catio for birdwatching, plus they gave shots and tested which was great. They used to have a closed circuit camera that you could watch on your phone as well plus daily updated LOL! This allowed me to travel when necessary and was greatly appreciated.

Maybe one day you might be more comfortable allowing the caregiving to be done by someone other than yourself. I am so envious your vet comes over for a house visit, that is not commonly done where I live! My other thought was a "Pet Hotel" situation like Kona's Dad found. But only when you are ready for it, don't let anyone force you to do something you aren't ready for. I understand that very well!

Just know you are doing an awesome job of managing all of this and I hope it helps to know you are never alone!
