I have no clue what set everyone off this morning but something did. Got woken up 20 minutes before the alarm was set to go off with the cats running at warp speed through the house sending stuff flying off counters and tables. Gonna need to repot 2 house plants thanks to aerial gymastics this morning. Drooler was going off like someone was trying to break in growling at the bedroom door with his hackles up. One of the litter boxes (the smallest one Thank God) was over turned. Got everyone calmed down and could find nothing to have set them off, so went to start breakfast and the handle falls off the Fridge. Plus I started back to working out last night and everything hurts today...Calgon take me away it is just going to be one of Those Days. <sigh>

How about recording a cricket and every time they start to settle down set it to chirping softly.

That would keep them active

Re: 3/12 Autumn amps-325, +6-256

I used to just get the ear twitch. Not a raised head, just the twitch saying "Go 'way, sleeping."

Ha Ha Ha.....

You know I miss the old pre-poptop catfood days....every once in a while I'd hit the electric opener just to wake them up......

Re: 3/12 Autumn amps-325, +6-256

 The Walmart Special Kitty large cans still have to be opened with the can opener..........cats get really PO'd when they find out it's green beans!

Re: 3/12 Autumn amps-325, +6-256, pmps-174

You can borrow my soaker tub...but you have to come down to orlando to use it. I have some bath bombs from Basin BTW.
Wellness 12.5 oz cans need to be opened with a can opener. I think the corned beef hash has to be opened with a can opener, and they do get disappointed when it's not for them...

Nice pmps

Hmmm I'll pick up some Special Kitty next time I'm in the vicinity of a Walmart - would be kind of fun to train them to the canopener. I think I need to irritate the furkids a bit to remind them who's boss. I came home from work and was out front admiring the neighbors baby - turned around to find my two sitting in the living room window yowling at me to get in the house where I belonged so I could feed them.

They seem to be getting pickier about the canned food so I think its time to go out and do a bit of experimenting.... Is all the Special Kitty pate OK or just certain flavors?

Re: 3/12 Autumn amps-325, +6-256, pmps-174

I think most of it is. They have Special Kitty Supreme that may have some chunky stuff, but I never pay attention to it, since I go for the pate specifically.

In large cans, there is Salmon, Mixed Grill, Super Supper, Beef and Liver, Ocean Whitefish and Tuna and I think a poultry flavor or 2. Plus they have all of them in the 5.5oz cans, plus a couple more flavors. The smaller cans come in a 4 pack, that is 1.44 at my Walmart and the big cans are .70. Can't beat the price and mine eats it as well as friskees and the Petsmart brand. Where ever I can save a buck.

Of course they love Fancy Feast, but I can't afford to feed it.

Thank you - I'll try the smaller cans first and see how it goes.....Mine seem to love anything for a couple of weeks and then they get bored so I need to switch things up.

Re: 3/12 Autumn amps-325, +6-256, pmps-174

You're doing good then, mine love it one day and try to bury it the next! ohmygod_smile Or will eat it right up for breakfast and not touch it for lunch. :o

I usually have 3 different flavors open at any given time. I never buy more than 2 cans of anything. But they eat it all as long as I rotate it. :thumbup

Keeping a couple cans of each flavor seems to work for us really. Tonight they had Super Supper, in the morning it will be Beef and Liver, etc etc. There are always some they like more than others, at least this week. But like I said, they DO eat all of them as long as I keep a rotation going and don't serve the same thing twice in a row. They can only afford to be SO picky, they have to eat what I can get. :-D I am amazed at people who have cats that eat one flavor all the time. Not my babies!

Which makes no sense at all, because they ate the same flavor dry food all their lives and had no problem with it. ohmygod_smile

Re: 3/12 Autumn amps-325, +6-256, pmps-174

Good to see the bounce clearing, maybe this one will hold.

BTW our SK large cans are pop top. Just fed one. They all contain fish so I don't like to use a lot.

Re: 3/12 Autumn amps-325, +6-256, pmps-174

Isn't that odd? The large cans here aren't pop top, just the 5.5 oz.

Re: 3/12 Autumn amps-325, +6-256, pmps-174

Ours are singles too. At my local store, they only have a few of the 5.5oz cans in 4 packs, but never saw a 12 pack. They do have 24 packs of the SP Premium I think it is, the little 3oz cans.

You'd think being a Walmart, all of them would be the same. :-D

I fed Sneakers the 4 lowest cans (according to Dr. L's newest page) and they were around 7-8%.

Supper Super- large cans- $.70
Tuna- large cans- $.70
Chunky chicken and tuna- 5.5oz cans/4 pk for $1.44
Mixed Grill- large cans- $.70

The large cans I got in a 12 pack for $8.38 or so- no big savings over the singles. The chunky chicken and tuna didn't come in the large cans. I stayed away from the fish ones b/c Sneakers was boycotting the salmon and the whitefish- even though they had lower carbs I believe.

Heather get out the magnifying glass and look, I believe every flavor you mentioned contains fish. I see the same ones and I was feeding some of those until I noticed they *all* contain fish. So I don't want to feed too much. Do you notice one that doesn't? I'm looking for something appropriate and economical at Walmart.

A lot of the time the "fish" in the food is fish oil for the omega 3, if it is fairly far down the list it is very minut and usually there to add omega 3

Interesting. I wonder how we could ever tell for sure?

Which have fish and which have fish oil. If all it says is "fish".

I bet that might be a question for Julia.

Now that is the 64 thousand dollar question, from what I can find at least some, if not all, is made by Menu Foods. However, the phone number listed on the cans will take you to a Menu Food's recall hotline. And inquiries to the Walmart company itself leads to the answer of "I don't know who makes our canned cat food."

Okay... how about she is boycotting those that are MAINLY fish?

Even the tuna was a throw in occasionally when she's really hungry and hope it gets by her before she turns up her nose at it

Oh you are just evil Heather...Poor Abused Sneakers...Its okay honey...if momma doesn't treat you better you can run away and come here...we like grey kitties.

Maybe that's how we can tell which is which? She's boycotting the fish not the fish oil?

Sneakers is like our canary in a coal mine? :YMPEACE:

I think Menu foods had to clean up their act, and they probably make the same thing for half the other brands if not more.

So it's likely a suitable supplemental. I don't like to feed any one thing all the time. Mix it up.

She does like her Merrick BG salmon though. So long as it isn't served at breakfast AND lunch or dinner. Or even in the same day  .

She likes me to rotate all 4 flavors each day- hence the freezing.

You made me pull my cans out LOL...

And now I/m thinking its rather odd that the #1 ingredient in Poultry Platter is poultry byproducts - but the #1 ingredient in Turkey and Giblets Dinner is meat byproducts. Of course after the first crazed dive for the food bowls they don't seem to be particularly happy with tonight's dinner selection.....but its more likely that they just aren't hungry yet - it was all about bending me to their will by making me offer them food as soon as I walked in the door.

LOL sounds like here...Today I knew I was going to be doing a lot of errand running so right after they ate breakfast I was opening cans to add water to them and freeze them into catfood hockey pucks for later...Now I knew they were hungry but the minute I popped the first can open they all come running and crying to be fed again. I try to not read the labels too closely. Sorta like hot dogs, love them as long as I don't look to closely at what is in them.
