Simon is back down to his more normal numbers and I'm so happy to see this. Last night, he was so playful and when I went to bed, I kept hearing something banging around on the floor. It was Simon playing with his nanner! He hadn't even really noticed the nanner when I bought it but all of a sudden, he has discovered it.

I still don't know what to do about the antibiotic the vet wants to start him on. I posted on Health, but haven't received any answer yet. Since his number for the beta hemolytic steroid on the urine culture was not really that significant according to the vet, I am wondering how important it is to get him on the antibiotic. Does anyone know someone I can ask? Of course, I don't want to compromise his health, but I don't want to unnecesssarily put him on something he doesn't really need. I guess I'll go ahead and pick it up this afternoon to have it ready to go. Any help is appreciated.

Happy Friday!

Re: 3/11 Simon AMPS 117

Now this number looks more like Simon.
Sorry but I don't know anything about he AB. Posting on health was a good idea, I am sure that somebody will respond to your question.

Have a good day. :-D

Re: 3/11 Simon AMPS 117

No answers for you here I'm afraid. But it's great to see that nice blue amps and to hear Simon is playful and loving his nanner

Re: 3/11 Simon AMPS 117

Discuss it more with the vet. Ask the pros and cons. If he's not sure, can he speak with someone at a vet school in their pathology dept. or lab to get more info? Frankly, if you vet is concerned, a urinalysis will need to be re-done about 2 weeks after the course of the AB to make sure the culture is clear. I would ask if a cat can be a carrier of this form of strep and be completely asymptomatic.

Re: 3/11 Simon AMPS 117

I would ask your vet also. I wouldn't play around with a UTI though. They sometimes don't culture for very long anymore - maybe they have the option of a longer culture. Would you be up to a second draw/culture?

Simon is sparkling in that pretty blue number!!!!

Re: 3/11 Simon AMPS 117

I am so glad to hear that your handsome boy is having fun playing. :) I hope you find the answers to your questions, but talking to the vet a little bit more sure sounds like a good idea.

Re: 3/11 Simon AMPS 117

I will talk to the vet today to ask more questions about Simon's lab work. I am also a little concerned about the strep and if it is something that can be passed on to my other cat. I know a UTI is something I should not avoid taking care of, so if it sounds like it is important to get it cleared up, I will definitely put him on the antibiotic.

Do most people use one type of antibiotic for a diabetic cat or does it really matter?
