hey there, long time no see
anyhooo, i just picked up a kitty today for DCIN and am fostering him for a bit.
HISTORY:
diagnosed diabetic in January 2011 and was on lantus 1 unit twice a day. There is no history of glucose numbers other than what is on his last labwork that looks to be from May 2011 if I am remember correctly.
bean fell on hard times and has not been able to give him insulin for a bit now, exactly how long I cannot say but I would say it's been at least a month from other details I know about her situation.
been eating trader joe's dry food, will eat wet she said and he was eating a fancy feast appetizer when I arrived at our meeting point today. she said he likes chicken anything and his favorite treats are temptations in the yellow bag. obviously we are going to get rid of the dry and the temptations.
he'll be on the same low carb friskies as my cats tonight, assuming he'll eat it.
we arrived home just about half an hour ago and i've checked him out. he actually seems pretty healthy. no signs of any illness, ie. mites, cold, etc.... no signs of neuropathy. not too stressed out really given what he's been thru the last few weeks and then being in a strange place. i am aiming to get a temp and a ketone test today too
tested his BG within 10 minutes of getting home and got a 287. not bad i thought given the dry and the stress and strangers. drank quite a bit as soon as i offered it to him. gonna see if he'll eat my wet of choice here in a minute.
oh, i did the old weigh me, pick him up, weigh again, do the math thing and he looks to be roughly 12 lbs. he's a maine coone mix btw.
i'm thinking starting him at 1/2 unit twice a day tonight or does anyone think I should do more than that to start?
i haven't bothered with a ss for Mousie in so long but I will get one going for Qxxyd here in just a bit hopefully. might need a refresher course on that
