Hey all, happy Sunday!! I am getting this condo up late today, we have been busy with errands and chores etc. Blah. Bailey was stinky pinky this morning but has really come down nicely. It rained all day and the kitties have been so snuggly!

For those of you who feed raw - did you transition from canned food? How did that go? Once you have all the tools/ingredients it's pretty easy, right? Is it less/more expensive than canned food?

I am considering making at least some of my own food - I have 3 cats and the little FF cans are getting expensive. Plus I like to control everything.

Thanks for any advice, and have a great rest of the weekend!!

ETA: I have read a lot of the info on Dr Lisa's site, but still working on it!!

Re: 3/11 Bailey AMPS 317, +2 282, +6 159 raw food question

I am no help on the raw question but there are a lot here who do it.

It rained here all day as well. Nice rainy Sunday. Hope you got all your errands and chores done. Great day for kitty cuddles.

I feed NV raw to my civies. This is how I transitioned my rescue cat from canned to NV raw: first fed her freeze dried raw as treats. She liked those so I started putting them on top of her canned food. She had no problem with that. Then I crushed up some freeze dried raw, rolled a small piece of NV frozen raw (thawed out, of course) in it, and put it into the canned food. Civie sniffed at it and looked at me funny but still ate it. I did that for a few days and then just gave her an entire NV raw nugget with the crushed up freeze dried raw on top and crossed my fingers nailbite_smile She looked at me, then looked at my other civie who was gobbling down his raw, and started eating her food  I think I kept putting crushed up freeze dried raw on top for a few more days to be sure that she would eat.

Age may be a factor in how easily a cat will transition diet. Civie was 6 months old at the time so she was pretty easy. Senior cats may be more difficult.

For my civies, I calculated out the cost of feeding to $1.05/day for my crazy civie (3 NV beef) and $0.88/day (2 NV chicken) or $0.79 day (1 NV chicken and one beef) for my rescue civie. So about $2/day to feed the two of them. Homemade raw would be even cheaper. Dr. Lisa has the approximate cost break down on her web site.

Hope your cats won't be too difficult to transition

No experience with raw here. Nice to see Bailey coming down from that ugly number. Did you get the flu vaccine, Melissa?

Re: 3/11 Bailey AMPS 317, +2 282, +6 159 raw food question

I just made the switch. I bought Feline's Pride and my guys liked it. The price was OK but the cost for mailing was huge. I started buying a pre-mix and grinding my own chicken (no bones). I liked the idea of grinding my own since I had a much better sense of issues related to bacterial contamination. My guys liked it just fine. It probably would have cost a lot less if I didn't use organic chicken. I do tend to think it ended up costing about the same as Wellness. It would likely have cost less if I bought all of the individual supplements but I was too lazy!

Sent DM the link for your condo yesterday to see Baileys x-rays - she was  and I know she'll be really careful about the lances when she comes to visit next week now  thanks for reposting.

Show us some more blue Bailey - and then maybe some green...
