There is that bounce...of course as far as she is concerned this is good news because it means mom isn't going to be stabbing her in the ear again until +6 and after yesterday her ears are ready for a break.

Now it is just wait out her bounce and let the new dose settle and go from there.

Up from the grass yesterday- certainly a bounce today.

Where's the middle ground all of a sudden?

Re: 3/11 Autumn amps-311

Ask Mel, Autumn reacts to everything, storms, full moon, mood changes, tiny changes in insulin, very 'reactive' cat. :o

Our cats may be, but I doubt most of us are as observant as Mel is, to all the outside influences.

I never know when the full moon is, but it would be an interesting study, to see how they react to various moon phases. But that's just me, I love scientific stuff. :-D

Now storms are another matter, I think any animal that stresses during a storm would probably throw higher numbers, even if they aren't diabetic. I would bet my Golden, who was terrified of storms, probably had super high BG's, along with everything else, during a storm. He would shake and hyperventilate. Only saw one other animal in my life that afraid of storms, a friend's terrier.

Only one of my cats seems to notice a storm and it's not Lucian. :-D

Yep Autumn is hyperreactive to everything, which while I will never truly know since I have no back history on her, I suspect comes from her previous life as a barn cat. I know when I first adopted her she was very very aggressive about her resources, she would fly across the room to attack the other cats at feeding time and if they would try to come up on the couch while either of us were holding her or showing her any kind of affection. To the point I had a meltdown with her and contacted DCIN about the possibility of rehoming her again, I just didn't think she would come around to living with other cats...she always liked the dog from day one.

Anyhow, DCIN set up an appointment for us with an Animal Communicator that they use and I learned some interesting things about her, such as she actually did like the other cats just was deathly afraid that they would take her stuff and because she had to be shaved and was no longer "pretty" that we wouldn't love her or protect her until she could find her place in the pecking order here. The dog was okay because he didn't want her things like food, toys and dogs play and get love differently from the humans than cats do, plus dogs were safe, they kept predators away, they can find shelter and will share prey..so dog good, other cats bad.

When pressed on why she was so worried about not being 'pretty' right now since her fur would grow back in time, she answer was...because when she was playing with the pretty one at her old home she accidently hurt the pretty one and then they took her away and made her feet hurt. And now we had given her a home because she was pretty and if she wasn't pretty enough we would make her go away and hurt her. So we are very conscious of constantly telling her what a pretty girl is. And the AC also described her hoarding of resources at first like a child that had been abused and starved and suddenly taken out of that situation and put in a foster home where there is plenty to go around, that they will gorge themselves at every meal and then try to stuff their pockets full because they are never sure if there will be a next meal. WHich is pretty much how she behaved until she finally figured out the meals always arrive 4 times a day, if she wants extra cuddles all she has to do is ask and we will pick her up etc.

She really is nothing like the cat that first got here, in any way from physical to mental to emotional but boy she has taken a lot of careful observing to see just what will set her off and what doesn't phase her at all. But then again I have lots of experience with those with baggage with the exception of my blue-point siamese Bert everyone here has been a case study in how to rehab a damaged cat or dog...Took me 6 months and a ton of hot dogs to get the dog to go up and down stairs after his previous owner had kicked him down them as a puppy.

Lord hon, I have to give you props, just for the size of your heart. :YMHUG: o:-) I daresay, there are few of us that could handle all that. But what you have done with them is amazing!

Bless you for the love you have shown to animals that were so badly abused and neglected.

You remind a lot of my late aunt. She is the reason that dog fighting is a major offense now in TN. Before her, there were few laws against it and then it was misdemeaner. She fought for years and finally got it. She had her own rescue for cats and dogs. Last time I was there, about 15 yrs ago, before she passed in 2000, she had 27 dogs and about 40 cats. They had 60 acres, fenced with various large pens and such, devoted to the animals. Those that could, were allowed to run free within the property. The ones that needed to be acclimated to other animals or due to medical need, were penned temporarily. The cats had the coolest pen, it was huge and had it's own house in it. She had taken so many that weren't expected to live because of abuse and neglect and rarely lost one. She was an amazing lady! Stories she told me, left me in tears more often than not. The things that people do, makes me want to vomit. She was a county animal protection officer for many years. I wish I had the property, I would so do something similar. She was one of those people that much prefer animals over humans. I can relate, I prefer my babies to most people.

Thanks hon.

It just seems that no matter how hard I try to keep the herd to a low thunder there are always more that find their way to my door. I don't know how many times I have said...No I want just two cats and a dog..then 2 becomes 3, and 3 becomes 5 and 5 becomes 8 until I finally just shut up and except the my house will always be covered in fur, water bowl, food dishes and toys of every kind color and type...lol. And yes if we had the room, the land and the bank account to take on more there would be more, but there is only so many hours in the day and so much space here that we are really at our limits. In fact had we not thought that Onyx was gone for good when he got outside and disappeared for 10 months we probably wouldn't adopted Autumn, but so glad we did. I don't think she would have survived much longer where she was and not being treated for her diabetes. There are several on DCIN that if I had the resources to care for them would be packing their bags for here as well. But I know my limitations and right now the inn is full.

Plus I learned with having both Autumn and Musette that I just can't stretch myself that thin to care for the rest of the brood and have two insulin dependent kitties at the same time. There is just me here to do the animal work side of things, because DH has to be gone to support the whole family and so he is really just an extra lap and set of hands with the loving end of things when he gets home...it is up to mom to test, feed, shoot, clean 16 litter boxes etc as well as maintain the house. Also another reason for looking into a home based income for myself... As if I don't have enough to do already.

Anyhow off to go Helen Keller the bedroom and start the Spring defurring of the house...known to most folks as Spring Cleaning...need to get the little stuff done in the next few days because as soon as it is warm enough outside to throw open the windows I am finally going to finish painting the d*mn kitchen. Only been trying to get it done for a year and a half now...at least it is now down to the trim and ceiling and getting up the wall paper border and making new curtains...

Re: 3/11 Autumn amps-311, +6-211

What a juggling act you accomplish! I am amazed at you Mel, sincerely! :YMHUG:

My aunt and uncle literally had nothing, but the land with a small house, they bought after selling their house in FL and moving to TN. They were both on SS and disability and you know how little that pays. Had it not been for a wonderful vet, that charged them only what absolutely had to be charged and let them make payments whenever it was necessary, they would have never been able to do what they did. They got no help from the state and there were few organisations that could help at that time, so they were on their own but they managed. There were many times they lived off dried beans and cornbread so they could feed the animals. They were the most important thing in their lives. Even as an animal protection officer, she got no pay for years, only in the last couple years was the county able to give her a little something for what she did. You can be sure they had a terrific garden though and grew a large percentage of what they ate.

After my aunt passed, my uncle continued to care for the animals, but could no longer take in any more and eventually found homes for the ones that were left. Last I heard, he was in very poor health and if still alive, would be in his late 80's by now. I have no idea if he's still around, would have to ask mom, she'd know.

They were such amazing people when it came to animals. I wish I could do what they did. I keep saying, "if I could win the lottery" Seriously, I would head for the mountains, buy land and have an animal rescue, not think twice about it. :-D

Yeah but clearly its full of love as well. I admire the heck out of you folks who can handle multiples. At one point I had three and it was exhausting - I felt like I didn't have enough energy to give them each the attention they deserved....two is my limit - at least until I retire and have more time available.

There's my girl nice gentle down and slight raise back up as she settles on her reduction now just keep it up pretty girl and let mom reduce you again in a week or two...only 4 more reductions at a drop at a time and you will be packing your bags for the Falls. :-D Just think pretty one, if you keep this up pretty soon no more stickers and very few pokies to the ears.
