Today is a mixed bag....Trix is feeling and doing pretty darned awesome, and that is, of course, awesome. We have a fabulously happy appy with a very animated Mannie Fuds Dance this morning, along with awesome wake-up snuggles. And what a gorgeous numbers, too :cat:!

But, the gelcap....oh, how I hate the gelcap. I do love the gelcap because it means I don't have to try to pill her a bazillion different times with all her meds. But I also hate the gelcap on days like today. This was probably our worst gelcapping event EVER:confused:. It took close to an hour. She hissed after my very first attempt:blackeye::blackeye:, and it was all downhill from there. One time she hissed just because I was there :(...talk about disheartening and immensely stressful. It took close to an hour, several repacks, lots of rest periods, before it finally went down.

I guess all is forgiven, though, because now she's on my lap snuggling again. But pilling fiascos like that absolutely wear me out, physically and emotionally.

Zen was considerably calmer during the night last night, but I think it's going to take me weeks to recover from last week's stress coupled with two very sleepless nights because if his nighttime rambunctiousness...

My Dad's treatment went fine yesterday, but now that he's 11 cycles in, some of the side effects are finally starting to catch up to him. His neuropathy has stayed stable, but his white blood cells are a little on the low side now. Very typical with this protocol, but nerve-wracking nonetheless. He has to go in for a mid-cycle follow-up - first time he's ever had to do that. I guess they may start giving him Neulasta for the WBC, but we'll see. We didn't see his regular doc yesterday (he was on vacation), and just like going to a vet that doesn't KNOW us, it was fairly stressful seeing a stand-in doctor for my Dad, too.

It's a work day....time to get moving. Have a great day, L&LL!

Amy

Morning Amy :coffee::coffee::coffee:

What gorgeous numbers for Trixie! Love that +3. :D:D:D

That darn gelcap! That must be so stressful. but I rally don't know how else you could get all those meds into her. Bummer on the hissing, but I suppose even Trixie has her days. Just letting you know who really is the boss. ;)I hope tonight will be better. Take your meds little one. I too think you have been forgiven, snuggles are in order.

I am glad that your dad's treatment went well. He is such a trooper. I wish him luck with the mid-cycle checkup.

Have a great day today. I hope all goes well.

I am so very sorry about the gel cap. ((((Amy)))) I know how horrible that is for everyone. Glad Trixie has forgiven and is snuggling anyway. Oh Zen. Let your bean get rest. You have had a lot of on your plate lately. Big hugs to you and hope you have a great day.

I'm sorry the gel cap was so bad this morning. Hopefully next time will be better. At least our kitties forgive us quickly. Sending prayers for your dad.

Can you think of a special treat that she can get only after the gelcap? It might be worth a try. Maybe a shrimp?

Trix is odd...she developed an aversion to all treats after she initially got sick last year. I've tried a few different things since then - all have been a no-go.

ETA...most of the time the gelcap is a non-issue, but when it is an issue, it's a BIG one!!

I was thinking of a human shrimp. I tried it for Max a few times with success. I have a bag from Trader Joes in the freezer.

She's never had "human' seafood. DH and I don't eat it, so I wouldn't want to buy a whole bag only to find out she won't eat it, either. And admit I'm a little gun shy...she was eating a lot of BFF food (all of which is seafood) when she got so sick last year, so I'm afraid to stray from her chicken at all.

Have you ever tried giving her a bite of chicken?I know a lot of people buy the boneless/skinless thighs and boil them, then cut them up in bite sized pieces and freeze them to use for treats. Again, you might not want to buy a package in case she doesn't like them, but maybe there's someone else in your family that eats meat that would take the rest of the package if she doesn't like it?

That is a very nice AMBG and an even better +3.5. Sorry about the gelcap fiasco. I know exactly how that feels!!! It always amazes me that, no matter how bad that battle was, the kitty always forgives you right away. I struggle to get Harvey into the cat sack (after chasing him through the house), and he fights like crazy to keep his mouth closed, but when it's all over and I let him out of the sack, he doesn't run away! He usually just climbs up to the arm of the chair and sits right there and lets me love on him! Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde!

Sending lots of vines and prayers for your DF. I hope all is well when he goes for this check up.

Sending lots of vines for you, too, as well as some for Zen to let you sleep. :bighug:

I've never cooked or touched meat....no idea how to do it. I could probably get my Mom to do it, but I have to admit...never having touched it, I would have a squeemishly hard time with it. I can scoop out cat food, but I have to hold my breath and look the other way....

I cannot even imagine what you go through with Harvey, @Tricia & Cinco ! At least they are so quick to forgive us....

Oh carp on the gel cap. You're right, though. Cats may hate the process but they sure don't blame us or hold a grudge. Good teachers those felines.

Amy, your dad is doing amazing. I had only nine treatments (sucky enzymes wouldn't metabolize the FU) 'cuz it was wrecking my platlets. To have only a little WBC issue at this stage is remarkable. Neulasta, if he needs it, will resolve that. No one I went through treatment with had as successful a go as your dad is having. He is amazing!

Hope calmness with all the furries visits your house from here on out.

Hole in one for tonight's gelcap...PHEW!

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement, Marilyn (@pollydoodle )...it's all so unnerving and hearing your success story helps calm my nerves! I think my Dad has shocked everyone - in his response, and in how he has handled treatment so far.

Yay for the hole in one, maybe Trixie has decided she doesn't like to fight either - well one can always hope!

I hear you on the meat handling. I do give treats of diced raw free range chicken breast. I try and rope in a visitor to dice it up for me and then freeze it in small parcels so that it only has to be done every couple of months. When I have to cut it up myself the guilt is pretty overwhelming.
