Sasha got progressively worse all weekend. The vet called today with the results from the fluid taken from her lungs and it's definitely cancer and apparently there are tons of cells confirming this so it seems to be pretty aggressive. I am thinking of having her PTS tonight or tomorrow depending on when I can summon the courage to do it. I want to save her any further suffering and it's clear her suffering has begun. Thought I might just take tonight to spend it with her and do it tomorrow. Is there ever a GOOD time for this crap??? Don't know how I am going to survive this.

I am so sorry the news about Sasha isn't better. You are a very good mama bean to be thinking only of her suffering and not yours. I think it's an excellent idea to spend tonight with her and give her all the love and attention you can. It will give you a very comforting memory when you look back. It is never an easy decision to make, but it is the right one. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you guide your beloved Sasha to the bridge.

It is hard; as you know, we just made the decision for Gussie last November. But it was the right thing to do because we let him fly free before he started suffering and the writing was on the wall that it wouldn't be long. While our grief was heavy at losing this amazing soul that had blessed our lives for almost 18 years, we had a sense of peace because he never got to the suffering part and we did not have to see him in pain. We got to spend a beautiful day with him full of all the things he loved. And his crossing was peaceful, surrounded by those who loved him. I hope this helps you have the courage to know that what you are doing is right for Sasha and shows the immense love you have for.

I'm so sorry Tonya! I agree you should spend at least one last night with Sasha.

Tell her everything you want her to know about her upcoming journey, and listen for her to tell you she understands and thanks you for loving her enough to let her go.

Thank you, everyone. It's such a comfort knowing I have this forum of crazy animal lovers who KNOW how hard this is. I am more afraid of life on the other side without her than I am of letting her go. Coming home to an empty house with nothing but the leash in my hand is going to be the worst. Yes, Tiki will be here, but it's still not going to be the same.

(((Tonya))) I'm so so sorry it's Sasha's time. I agree with the others that you should spend the time to spoil her rotten and explain where's she's going next. She's understand, you share a great bond. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: I grew up with a dog that got lung cancer - it's so horribly fast. :cry:

At least Tiki's being a good boy today.

I am so very sorry it is time for Sasha to cross the bridge. She will be in very good company there, while she waits for you...and you will be together again some day. Sending tons of prayers and hugs....

You will get through this because it's the right thing to do. It hurts like hell but it is a decision made out of compassion and your love for Sasha not for what makes you feel good. It's a decision that should hurt because it is hard and not taken lightly.

I am so sorry to hear this. You are doing what you think is best for her and thats all that matters. Its always going to be difficult. There will always be guilt. Because you are human. But its the best gift you can give - you don't want her to suffer any more.

Dear ((((Tonya)))), farewells are so hard, but Sasha will be going to a good place, where she will be well and strong again and where she will have many friends to greet her. Tell her tonight of the joyful reunion you will have when you meet again. She is a lucky pup to have shared her life with you.

So many thanks to you all. Your support and comments mean the world.

She's had a good night. Has eaten and even wanted more. Enjoyed her walk and even trotted ahead. Has also been more engaged and less agitated. She hasn't done these things in the last 3 days. Is this a good thing or evidence I am making the wrong decision?

Tonya, I read your post earlier and I've been thinking of you guys all afternoon. Having lost my two boys last year, it is fresh in my heart all that you're going through. I hope you can find some comfort and relief in letting her spirit run free. It will be good not to worry about her and see her struggle. She will be waiting for you at the bridge and you will see her again. It's been my experience that dogs can't come back through as easily as cats, but I hope Sasha lets you know she is good when she finds her way. We'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Gardens of comfort vines and hugs from us.

I think we pretty much cross posted - I didn't see your last comment before I wrote mine. I think I would have to tell you to listen to your heart in these situations. And listen to Sasha. You may have a few more days with her. It's always so hard to know when you're waiting too long. She will tell you and you will know. We all know whenever you make the decision is when it is right. Sasha knows you only want the best for her.

I am so sorry to hear about the cancer.
It's such a hard and painful decision to make.
I have no wisdom to offer in a situation like this, but I'll be thinking of you and sending prayers.
