So Mitzi has been doing great! I've been giving her fortiflora with every meal and her diarrhea hasn't been present for a couple/few days. She took a big poop last night and it was pretty solid, just a little runny. But, she only eats wet food so that'll happen, especially since she's on fluids and pain meds, which can obviously affect her bowels as well.

I was ECSTATIC last night that her numbers were in the 200's because that was the first time EVER and I know her numbers were/are still high, but they're lower than they've ever been. HOWEVER, her AMPS this morning read "HI" so I was confused and wondering how the heck that happened?! I don't have a kernel of dry food in my house either so that's not an option. There is no access to anything either and Mitzi can't jump so I'm puzzled as to why it sprung so high again?! Any ideas? I will update my SS when I'm done with classes as I'm typing this in class right now (LOL) so in a few hours it'll be where it should be so if you could take a look that'd be great.

I'll be calling the vet this afternoon to make an appointment to have another blood panel done and check her heart, etc. Gotta make sure I don't get in with ***** vet though cos man, I can't stand her for the life of me. RUDE *****! I want a vet who cares about Mitzi like I do and me as well. All ***** vet ever says is, "it won't change the outcome." *****. And btw, yes it will cos if I know what's going on I can better help Mitzi. Idiot. Man, I REALLY HATE her!

And I need to order some phosphorous binders yet, too! What exactly will that do, besides lowering her phosphorous? Will it make her feel better or just lower numbers? Just curious.

I also need to order sub q fluids in bulk but I haven't had any luck with that as we are in a shortage, apparently. Where can I get venosets and terumo needles as well? And do I need an RX for them?

Mitzi is probably bouncing from going lower than her body is used to. It is a normal reaction and over time she will adjust to being in better numbers.

I know that Marge gets her Ringers from Walgreens by the case, be sure to get their discount card. The best place to get the lines and needles is Thriving Pets.

WE use a different probiotic NWC Total-Biotics. It has a lot more different bacteria that are good for cats and is cheaper too, this jar lasted over 3 months w/ 2 cats. Our vet had a different one she recommended and when I showed her the info on this she is switching all her patients!

In the very long email I sent you on CKD, I sent you all the info regarding supplies including fluids, lines, needles, binder, etc.

The binder won't make her feel better directly. It will bind the phosphorus in the food. Hopefully, you will then see her phosphorus level coming down. Once it's down below 5, she will feel better. Your goal is to keep it as close to 4.5 as you can. In the CKD email, I also sent you a ton of info on phosphorus control.

Fluids are really tough to find right now...I'm in the same boat and after calling MANY local pharmacies, the only place that could get them for me locally was a medical supply place at $9.99 per bag, plus $9.99 shipping. It's not bargain, but what can ya do? I also contacted ThrivingPets.com and finally heard back from them - they do have lactated ringers in stock for now, and if I remember correctly, they are $6.45 per bag if you buy 12 bags. I haven't ordered lines and needles yet, but you can get those from ThrivingPets, too. You do need a script for all of it.

I read about your horrible experience with "that" vet...can you request to see a specific vet at that practice? Are there other vets around that you could go to instead? We switched vets I don't know how many times, until we finally found one that we really like.

I hope Mitzi breaks that bounce. Have a great night, guys!

Mara --

When a kitty is new to diabetes, when numbers come back down, the cat's body isn't used to being in better ranges. As a result, the numbers bounce back up due to the response of the liver and pancreas. The good news is that Mitzi's numbers came back into the yellows today. It can take as long as 72 hours for a bounce to clear.
