Gus is still not eating just taking couple of bites. He didn't get his PM shot yesterday (BG 101), this morning his BG was 275 and I didn't given him shot because he is diving into 20 with drop of insulin. Now his BG is 324 he seems to walk around little more and takes a bite. In addition to meds that he was taking (below) he got 4 mg of Cerenia @+5 and I am hoping that he is going to start eating if not as soon as DH comes back from work we will syringe feed. I am planning to give him drop of insulin now and if everything goes well go back on schedule tomorrow?

bupe 0.15 twice daily
onda 2mg twice daily
cypro 2mg once daily
Cerenia 4 mg once daily
Fluids 100 ml daily
B12 injection weekly

Please comment on medications/dosage ideas?
Is there anything else I can do to help my baby feel better.

I don't have any advice on the medicine. I hope Gus starts feeling better soon and eating more for you. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug:

Thank you Carla

It is so beautiful outside today low 80 so I decided to take Gus for a field trip in the woods. He really enjoyed it stayed close to the house but after awhile he started eat grass. I had to take him in I don't know it for sure but grass wouldn't be good for his problem. This little outing for sure lifted his spirit.

Maybe he would like a catnip plant? They often eat grass when nauseous. You are giving all you can for that but since he’s still not eating much it might not be getting rid of the nausea. Since you are giving fluids I would get the injectable cerenia as it’s more effective and if injected in the fluid bubble I’ve been told doesn’t sting. I injected without fluids and the reaction was so severe I never tried again. . :bighug:

You might check with your vet, but I believe you can give the ondansteron up to every 8 hours - you can also give cyproheptadine every 12 hours -- when Murphy has a flare, I also temporarily increase his cerenia to 8 mg - how much does Gus weigh? Do you mean .15 ml of bupe? what is the strength and how are you giving it? the only other thing I can think of is canna oil - I have not used it yet for Murphy but will during his next flare up

Yes 0.15 ml bupe. Gus weights 10.7 lbs. Tomorrow I am going to increase Cerenia to 8 mg. So far Gus is interested in food but only sniffs it. We just syringe fed 30 cc food with 1 tsp of pumpkin pure. I hope that he will hold it. I am not sure if pumpkin pure is a good idea for severe diarrhea. Ok now I am curious what is canna oil?

I have Hemp oil and googled it so far I see many positive opinions. I am going to read more about it and see if anybody here has experience using it. Thank you so much.

Canna oil is hemp oil - CBD oil - many people are starting to use it - I just gave Murphy his first dose 5 minutes ago
@LizzieInTexas uses it I don't know Gus's history, but this summer Murphy had terrible diarrhea for 2 months - I ordered poo pills from animalbiome his stools are now normal. Again, I am not a vet, but Murphy's bupe is concentrated at 0.3 mg/ml - I have to give him 0.4- to 0.5 ml of it to really have an effect - the instructions for Murphy are to give 0.36-0.72 ml transmucosally (in cheek pouch) every 8-12 hours. He weighs about a pound more than Gus (11 lb 8 oz) You might check with your vet if you can give more bupe, and also bump up the other meds as well. Cyproheptadine is definitely dosed for twice a day dosing and it sounds like he is nauseated - in which case ondansteron may be able to be bumped up as well

Thank you so much. I have bupe 0.3 mg/ml as well and initially he was prescribed 0.25 ml when he was 14 lbs. After he lost weight I give him 0.20 ml and it seemed like it made him restless so today I tried 0.15 ml. Tomorrow I will increase cerenia etc. Normally Gus is constipated but two days ago got terrible diarrhea. Please let me know how hemp oil is working for Murphy and good luck.

I will add my nod to this too. Gizmo wouldn't eat the food with the oil in it but I already had and was using the powder. Will mix 1/2 to a whole capsule with a bit of "treat" food and he gobbles it up. My current regiment is Torbogisic (opiate similar to bupe), Cerenia and Canna (https://cannacompanionusa.com/). I am also giving Marshmallow Root (similar to SEB but Gizmo does better with MMR) made into a slurry and Aloe juice added to it for stomach acid/constipation AM/PM pre-shot meal. If there is an eating issue I throw a Mirtz in the mix but rarely.

What I have found that if he acts or looks like he is in pain or discomfort - I treat. Better to stay ahead of a full-blown attack. BG numbers are also a good indicator for me too.

If you want more details let me know because there are somethings I do different in certain situations.

Thank you so much. Gus had several episodes of pancreatitis/IBD two years ago and he was well for several months until now. This is by far most severe one and he lost 3 lbs. The BG# are so unusual for him, he is on very low dose 0.25 or drop and will dive into 20. He was evaluated by IM and had usg done. It showed many changes: kidney, liver, pancreas, spline, intestinal wall etc. We decided against biopsy. At that time he was prescribed steroids and other meds. We tried to find food that will help it included raw, home made and many brands canned food, novel protein. Gus wouldn't eat any of it. We didn't see any improvement. We finally tried Fancy Fist and he liked it. Since than he did well no cystitis, pancreatitis/IBD episodes until now. Now there is substantial weight loss that I am worry about.

I really appreciate your replay and if you can provide more details it would be great.

Murphy as a similar history - he had been doing great until late July when he had a horrible relapse that lasted until the beginning of September All I can say is that it seems the budesonide (steroid specific for the gut) and the poo pills from animalbiome did something - or it is all coincidence. I highly encourage you to look at the ibdkitties.org website and their facebook page

(((Elizabeth))), I can't help with the meds discussion, but Rusty and I wanted to send some beautiful healing vines to Gus. I'm glad that he enjoyed his outdoor time with you today.
Hugs and scritches,
Feel better, Gus!

Have you tried any appy stimulants?

With SEB or MMR you need to wait 2 hours before/after to give any other meds or supplements. It coats the digestive system and inhibits absorption of the other meds/supplements.

I make up the slurry, 1/2 cap of MMR/SEB mixed with a tablespoon or so of hot water and 1/2-1-1/2 teaspoon of Aloe Vera juice (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00014EB6O/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20) in a small ramekin and then microwave it for 10 sec. The hot water makes the mmr/SEB slimy and thickens it. I just add it to his food. This mixture acts kinda like Pepto for humans.

I just started using cerenia on a more regular basis (not daily though, just as-needed).

Lots of extra water in his food. Like soup. I worry about dehydration (he has ckd also).

Gizmo has been hospitalized three times, twice for pancreatitis once with uti that led to a panc flare. Last one almost killed him.

When he quit eating and I had to force feed I always gave him the chance to eat on his own before I forced it. He finally started eating on his own.

Have you tried anything on his good to encourage him to eat?
Questions?

ETA - where are you? In the US?

We used budesonide, Metronidazole and Ursodiol without any results. Typically Gus gets miralax because he is constipated. Last two days ago diarrhea started and tonight is brownish water expelled with fireworks. We have never experienced anything like this. I am a member of FB IBD group so I am going to start reading again.

I use CBD oil, along with turmeric "golden paste" and fish oil as some natural remedies for Bronx's arthritic pain. It all seems to helping a bit.

Yes when Gus got diagnosed with FD we transitioned him to only wet food. We used all recommendation from "How to stimulate Kitty's Appetite" and more including catnip, liver shake. Most things worked for short while. We also used SEB so since I have syringe feed him I am going to add slurry. Gus always loved cantaloupe and today he took several bites of it but I wouldn't call it eating.

OMG I am so sorry about Gizmo having such difficult time. How old is he?

Gus is 18 years old and prior to FD he was very healthy.

I just want to warn you about something. I strongly suggest that you only change one thing at a time in regards to meds and supplements or you won’t know which is helping. If you add anything consult with your vet. I know lots of people are using CBD but it’s still quite new and no real studies. I’m not saying I’d never use it because I might but with as much as you are giving Gus you don’t want to add anything without at least discussing it with your vet. JMHO.:bighug:

What dose of CBD oil are you using?
Looks like you doing excellent job selecting natural remedies, I use golden paste and fish oil myself for my aging joints.

5 drops 2x/day of 1000mg CBD oil. Probably could give a higher dose but Bronx is on so many supplements, I try to be on the lighter side.

Elise thank you so much JMHO. I totally understand, my goal now is to get Gus eating and felling better. Do you recommend that I add SEB to his current medication regiment?

I am looking into possibility of SBD oil helping Gus after his current situation is stabilized.

I always appreciate your input.
