Good morning to all! It's another lovely day in north TX! I suppose spring is really here, unless we get a surprise March cold snap. The bradford pears are blooming, as are many other plants. It was a mild winter.

The workers are pouring the foundation on the game room addition today. It is highly entertaining to my little beans! Construction in action  We have a cement mixer and a concrete pumper truck here. My DS age 2 thinks he won the truck lottery!

Hello to everyone in LL!

ETA: can someone tell me how we want the vet to write for a Lantus pen? I may get him to write it when we go for a dental. Two birds with one stone. Has anyone had success with getting a single pen in the US--if so, which pharmacies?

Nice AMPS! Beautiful day here today as well, unfortunately I am stuck at tbp. How exciting on the addition! I bet the little beans will have fun watching. Have a great day Kim!

Hi guys .. beautiful start to the day for simon! Lucky you guys that spring is already there .. a few more weeks for us probably .. how exciting on the new addition .. bet you can't wait till it's done .. have a great day!

My vet had never heard of the pen, but was very willing to write the script for it and had even gotten other clients to use them. Have your vet give you two scripts, one for Lantus Solostar 5-pack, refills p.r.n., and one for Lantus Solostar 1 pen, refills p.r.n.

If you only get the prescription for a 5-pack or only a prescription for 1 pen, the pharmacist has to fill it as written. Since it may be hard to find a pharmacy who will give you one pen at a time, if you have the prescription for a 5-pack you can still get the pens...you'll just have to get five at a time. The p.r.n. means it's an indefinite prescription and you can fill it as needed. That way, if something goes wacky with the insulin, you can just go get another one whenever you need it.

I had NO LUCK finding a pharmacy to sell me only one pen at a time until I thought to call the pharmacy at K-Mart. They are the only one's here in Las Vegas that I could find that would do it. But the K-Mart closest to my house won't do it. I actually have to travel to one about 30 minutes away!! I called Costco, Sam's Club, Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, all the supermarkets...all of the large and small pharmacies....and no one would break a pack for me. The pharmacy at K-Mart has a customer whose insurance will only pay for one pen at a time so they already have an open pack so me and that other customer just buy one pen at a time. They cost me $45 per pen. It may help convince the pharmacist to break a pack for you when you explain that you'll be getting a pen every two months or so (depending on your dose) and the pens have a long expiration date so he won't be stuck with expired pens...you'll use them before the expiration date, but you just don't want to have to spend so much money buying all five pens at one time.

Many people have found a Costco, or a Target, or a Walmart that will sell them one pen at a time. Every pharmacy in every town is different on their policy. Even the same pharmacy at different locations (i.e., Walgreen's) will have different policies. It's all up to the pharmacist as to whether he will do it for you or not. You'll just have to make a ton of phone calls. Good luck!!!

Keep in mind that some states do not allow prn scripts (Missouri is one of them... script has to be renewed every 6 months). I am able to get single pens at Costco and I know others have had success with Sams Club and with the outpatient pharmacies at local hospitals.

Good luck!

That was a lovely AMPS for Simon. I hope the rest of the morning was just as nice.

Construction is exciting. There are usually painful issues to be worked through along the way, but at the end those can be forgotten and the addition enjoyed. Of course little beans just get the exciting part! :-D

I have heard that sometimes a hospital pharmacy will be willing to sell single pens. But unless you make sure arrangements before you get the script, Patty's advice is good, get two scripts.

I couldn't find anyone that would sell 1 pen, so I bought a 5-pack at Costco and used the $25 coupon available on the SoloStar website.

Nice AMPS for Simon! Hope the construction goes well with no cost overruns. :o :-D
