Highest reading we've had in a few days, but I did kinda carb him up last night (gave him 10% carb Wellness instead of his normal 4% Friskies/FF/ now Blue)
Starting him on Blue Wilderness chicken pate today.
He really is hating the testing & his ears are obviously bothering him, so I am minimally testing right now.
May cave and call vet tomorrow. Sigh. Still can't tell if other cat is abnormally itchy too.

Also, he's putzing with his breakfast.

Great.
He's refusing to eat the Blue & is trying to get to his sister's Friskies.
The antibiotic is also in the Blue, and I can't get it back out again, so....
I'm so done.

Ugh now I'm thinking it's definitely not the food.
He ate Purina DM for 2 weeks before switching to FF, and Purina DM has pretty much the same ingredients! ....did I just buy a bunch of expensive food (that he won't eat) for nothing?
I can't do this anymore. I'm done with cats.

It does get very aggravating about the food, meds or no meds, I don’t even want to k ow how much money I’ve thrown in the trash, I’m so over food too, they get what they get
Take it from me, just walk away and chill for a minute, I am now on 2 new ulcer meds and they have taken away most of my foods
Relax! Please
Read the serenity prayer it applies to stresses! I’m reading it everyday so I don’t end up back in hospital for another week! Take a walk, read a book, or just have a nice cup of tea or coffee and breathe

It's clear he's missing this antibiotic dose. IDK how big of a deal that is, but he's seriously just refusing to touch the food. I even mixed some DM in it to try to make it more interesting. Nope. He's refusing to eat.
I can't relax.
I'm sleep-deprived bc of the insulin schedule.
I'm broke bc of the vet bills and medications.
There's no relaxing.

Can you get him to eat anything?? That you can mix some more AB in? Try the food first, is it a pill or liquid

Remember the blues are fine, not hurting any organs, he doesn’t have to be number perfect and don’t let those numbers rule how you feel

It's a pill, and it's gone. I've dumped out the food. So, no, he's just missing this dose, period. There's no way around that as the pill is gone & I can't just replace it w/ another.
I'm sure he'd eat the Friskies or FF, but we're trying to figure out if he's got a food allergy.
He won't even touch the Blue without the antibiotic in it.

So IDK what to do. I can return the Blue, that's fine. I kept the receipt. But, I don't know what to put him on now. Just go back to Friskies & see the vet I guess...?

And I'm not worried about his blood sugar. I already gave him his insulin. He ate a little bit while I was giving it to him, so it's not like he's eaten nothing.

Will he let you pill him, or is there a liquid, sometimes liquids can be easier, I know your frustration and I’m sorry

I can pill him if I had to (he fights it hardcore & these pills are huge), but at this point, since the one pill is gone, replacing it w/ another still means a missed dose.
He will eat the antibiotic mixed w/ Friskies though. Or with a food he actually likes.
It's not the antibiotic, it's definitely the food since he won't touch it even w/out the antibiotic in it.
We were just speculating that the food is what's causing his hair loss/itching ears.

Sigh. Sheba pate perfect portions - won't eat that either.
Fine. I'm giving him Friskies. He needs to eat something.

...Edit to add: he's now eating the Friskies just fine.

Well, at least I can return the expensive Blue... but I'm still not sure what's going on w/ his ears/if he's allergic to something...idk.

I don't know what to do.

Sorry to hear about your frustration....but I understand. Luci always decides to stop eating whatever I buy a case of...she eats it if I buy it one can or pouch at a time...but the minute the case arrives - that's it. Won't touch it! I've given it away - Jamie :) and donated it to shelters...

Have you tried Fortaflora - yes I know, another expense...perhaps your vet will give you one of the little packets to try. Also, sometimes sprinkling a little parmesan cheese on the food will get them interested. I've also crushed up freeze dried salmon, tuna, etc. and sprinkled it over her food to get her started. I have to change the flavor with every feeding. Sometimes I freeze the leftovers and bring it out another time - because she won't eat the same flavor two times in a row.

Last but not least...have you tried feeding cooked chicken or chicken hearts, liver, etc. It's at the grocery store - sometimes you have to ask for it - and it's fairly cheap...

Just some suggestions for dealing with finicky.

He does like FortiFlora, but I'm going to just wait til I go to the vet at this point. What if it's not even the food at all & I'm just wasting all this time, you know? It could easily be yeast...or fungal (which would really suck bc he's all over the house & both cats would be exposed & he's currently laying in my bed with me, soooo).

He doesn't like freeze-dried anything. He doesn't like fish. Or fresh chicken. Or cheese. He doesn't like any of the things cats are supposed to like.

I'm just going to stop w/ the food changing til I see a vet. Literally sitting here wondering if I should call the local 24-hour vet to just get this over with... or if I should wait to see our normal vet since she has his most recent test results. (That one probably makes the most sense, but it's really hard for me to sit here til tomorrow and do nothing and not even know if I'll be able to get him in tomorrow.)

Well that's up to you....but I have to add one other thing. For what it's worth - that 150 is an excellent number for a pre-shot. Overall his numbers are looking really good. Maybe he's just not hungry...relax today and let him get his appetite back. Let's hope the philosophy of 'he'll eat when he's hungry' will work.

Sometimes I tell Luci that I don't care weather she eats or not...

Then later I see that she's gone back to her dish and scarfed it up...I think they just want to play games with us sometimes.

As for the ears...that's another matter and I do think your vet will have to get a look and test for what's going on there.

Oh but he was trying to dig under the door to get to his sister's Friskies. heeee was definitely hungry. And he ate the Friskies as soon as I offered it.

FWIW, I will be ecstatic if he can stay on Friskies lol. So I guess I'm kind of hoping the ear WILL be something else like yeast -- something non-contagious please lol. (This stressing is allllll about the ears & MONEY...and not at all about the diabetes or his numbers. I'm comfy with his numbers). I'm keeping him on the 1u for now too til we figure the ear thing out & I'm minimally testing bc it's obviously uncomfortable for him when I test right now. I'm 100% focused on the ear / hair loss thing lol.

Just sucks that I'm going to end up having to do 2 appts -- one for the ears & one for the urine recheck. But ...time to stop trying to figure it out online heh.

Green PMPS (my second green shoot). He threw up about 30 min before PMPS & food...I'm praying he keeps this food down given a green shoot...he threw up last night too :(

I am suddenly concerned about ketones - even though his numbers are low. With the throwing up, the possible ear infection of some sort... and I can tell he went and drank some water after eating.
He ate OK this evening though... IDK if I"ll be able to catch his urine for a ketone test or not. Ugh.

Not enough insulin, not enough food, and infection, right? .... I mean, I think he's getting enough of the other 2.... so much anxiety :(

Antibiotics can cause some GI upset for sure....clavamox, zenequin especially. He might just need some bland food but you said you can't do babyfood, broiled chicken or eggs so...I'm not sure what else would do...

I also don't think ketones develop with lower numbers ..I think it's numbers above the renal threshold/ not enough insulin, no food etc..

yeah I just panicked. He's doing ok - eating happily & and hasn't vomited again (eating his Friskies). Heck, he's not even so bothered by his ears at the moment. And, yes, he's on Clavamox - and also he's always had intermittent puking problems. I just need to chill.

Easier said than done.

Edit:

Portrait of my life:

Cat: *drinks water*
Me: OMG IS IT KETONES?!
Cat: *stares at me*
