Called the vet this AM -- was told to pick up some MiraLax (OTC) and give 1/8tsp 2x today -- then if no change by tomorrow to call again. I mixed it with about 1 Tbs of juice from Friskies (9%) -- he lapped it right up. I was afraid there might be an aftertaste or odor. That was +2 from AMPS. He's sleeping again right now
Thankfully, he hasnt had any of those *episodes* (where he looks like he might die any minute) well since the dose decrease.
Just one time, shortly after the dose reduction, but he snapped back out of it.
Other than that he was all purrs and affectionate last nite and into this morning. :-D

(((((((Donna)))))))) I am sooo happy to hear that KiKi is not getting as "out of it" as he was.

Miralax should do the job ;-) However, a couple of times I gave a wee bit too much and Webber got some runny pooh for about a day. :o

Re: 3/09 KiKi AMPS 374 +constipated vet said give MiraLax

Tizon get Miralax once a day and all is good. I do add a lot of water to his food though... pretty much a soup. I don't think he's ever noticed the Miralax in his food.
I hope it works for you.

Re: 3/09 KiKi AMPS 374 +constipated vet said give MiraLax

 Like how much too much? I didn't have an 1/8 tsp, so I just guessed where 1/2 of the 1/4 tsp was at. Altho a little runny poo at this point would be a welcome sight -- as long as it eventually left again.
Also, do you give it as preventative/maintenance or just when needed?

Re: 3/09 KiKi AMPS 374 +constipated vet said give MiraLax

Too much was when I gave 1/4 tsp twice in one day. Hehe. Yeah I just eyeball it now and give half of the 1/4 tsp. But it wasn't bad. It was only for a couple of litterbox visits. Sorry I didn't mean to freak you out

Webber has a constant issue with constipation so I tend to give it once almost every day or every other day for one of his meals.

Re: 3/09 KiKi AMPS 374 +constipated vet said give MiraLax

I mix 1/8 tsp in both bowls of food in the AM and PM for my 2 cats. It seems odorless and tasteless, and the presents in the litterbox seem much larger and softer so far. We do it every day for maintenance, b/c both of my (sniff) geriatric cats were having some issues. Not necessarily constipation, but a back up (the vet said something about the feces doubling back on itself in the colon and becoming too large to pass) which looks just like constipation (i.e. the vagal response of vomitus)

hope that helps!

ps. i hear you can adjust dose anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4 tsp. start low and move up, of course!

i had thought that for laxatives, is ok to start high and move down? or is that only for megacolon kitties? does anyone remember?

Jojo posted this in my condo from 2/27 that with Miralax she likes to start high and work down:

glad that miralax like stuff is easier to get there, will be needing that for sure. and yes she can take it for rest of life, sprinkled on food with water added, will not cause harm. everything just gets so thrown off on them when they are slightest bit constipated, felines just cannot handle it well. i think you and she will be way happier with miralax type products than the current metamucil. i dose constipation meds differently than stephaine, start high and back down until perfect effect. the doses she gave you are correct. either 1/8 or 1/4 tsp bid in little bit of tasty food with water added. good luck! hope this solves that issue for good!

Re: 3/09 KiKi AMPS 374 +constipated vet said give MiraLax

hey!
I read it the same as Lydia.
I thought aw the poor vet is constipated; did MiraLax work for the vet's constipation too?

Anyways, I hope that kiki is feeling better soon.

Yay! Some sunshiny yellow numbers! KiKi still has not poo'd yet ... I can hear gurgling in there tho.....hope thats a GOOD sign. Anyhow, he ate almost a full can of FF tonite -- and had been roaming all around the house today (the house isn't that big, but atleast he's mobile).

It is so nice to read that Kiki is doing better - no more of those episodes. I had followed your condo through what much have been a trying time for you. I am so glad things are better.

on a lighter note: love the comments above about the vet and the constipation and and and   some times there just needs to be humor amongst it all.

have a good night! btw - kiki is so cute! what a sweatie! cat_pet_icon

Who are you calling sweaty? :o Ladies (and kitties) don't sweat, they perspire. Oh, you meant.... sweety. .... Nevermind.
