My cat just started on prozinc yesterday. Just took his +6hr reading and it is higher than his before am shot. What should i do. Was perscribed for BID. SHould i test him again in an hour to see how much higher it is going to go? Not sure what to do now. HELP!

you can't do anything right now other than log the data and ride it out.

oddities are to be expected in the beginning. and testing at home allows you to spot things like this and figure out changes that need to be made later, after several days of data is collected

What were the two readings? Considering meter accuracy, the real difference may be none.

This is a process, not an event - figuring out the best dose for your cat is going to take some time.

Multiple factors go into how the cat responds: starting glucose level, carbs consumed, activity level, insulin type, insulin responsivity, timing of insulin vs eating, and more.

The fewer things there are that vary, the less difficult (we won't say its easy!) it becomes to figure out what works.

So - aim as much as possible for a consistent shot time, consistent insulin dose, consistent carb level, consistent feeding time, and consistent activity levels. Then you use the data on pre-shots and additional mid-day glucose readings to adjust the dose, again while keeping everything else consistent.

Also, get urine testing strips (ex. ketodiastix) and monitor for ketones, especially if you are seeing glucose levels in the 300s or higher.

PS Spitzer did that 11/15 and 11/12.

According to the brochure on ProZinc, (the website also should have this info), is that it takes around 45 days for the insulin to take its full effect...That was true with my SugarKitty, it was a full 45 days...It was a frustrating ride, give it time to work its magic.
