I have to admit I'm confused. I finally got the Lev, but the particular pharmacist on duty wasn't very helpful :(. I got "Penfills" so I wanted to quickly ask some questions since I thought I was getting a vial, which I am used to with Lantus. Of course she told me it goes in a pen. I said, that's fine for humans, but I have a cat and I need to micro-dose, so I just needed to clarify about using the insulin needles with it. She didn't have much time for me I guess, because she said well it sounds like you know what you are doing and walked away. Hmm, alright then.

My question, I looked at the pics in the stickies, but these Penfills look different. It sounds silly but I can't see which end you're supposed to insert the insulin needle, there is a green top with a small area, or the bottom is orange-brown, which looks like it has a rubbery bottom? I'm already stressed enough about the insulin change, and when to do it, so it would be good if I knew which end I'm supposed to stick the needle in :blackeye:

ETA I'm good, I took another look and there is no way it's the brown end, its way too deep for an insulin needle to get into the Lev :rolleyes:. I'm a mess with this change, I can't even think straight!

Aww poor Christie, I'm glad you've got it figured out. In this diabetes world every change is stressful, take a deep breath, it's going to be fine, you know what you're doing. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
Christie, don't be stressed at the change to levemir. It's a great insulin.
I swapped Sheba over to it in 2014 and I found she was much happier on it...I know that sounds crazy but she was somehow more content.
I also found the onset was later than Lantus and the duration longer.
The basics are the same as Lantus except the onset is usually later.
I started off with using 70% of the dose of Lantus but found I had to end up using the dose as Lantus.

You want to make sure there's not a protective cap of some sort on the cartridge. (You have cartridges -- the glass vial that is in the plastic pen housing). There should be an end with a rubber stopper, just like with a vial except smaller.

@Wendy&Neko used Lev cartridges. She can likely give you a bit more information since cartridges aren't available in the US.
 
The Levemir cartridge looked like the Lantus one, but the colour was different. The stickynnote with the picture of cartridges shows you hw it draw the insulin. Like a mini vial, but you don’t inject air in. Good luck with the switch! Looking forward to seeing how Mav reacts to it.
