Re: 27 Aug Sammy AMBG 180 - gave a drop of insulin last nigh
So, interesting day today. Didnt give insulin this morning as I was leaving for work and didnt want to risk a hypo. She was right back up at 345 so i gave her another drop today.
i called the vet to report that she was close to the cut off point BG wise where he wanted her brought back in for further diagnostics last night. I debated with whether to fess up to giving a drop of insulin, and decided to go for it... it would tell me if this particular vet "gets it" with FD or not. NOT! he said its impossible to give only one drop, and even if you could, anything less than one unit has no effect on a cat. So, yeah, we are not best buddies anymore.
This vet was the one of the 5 that was on duty this weekend, so I got him instead of regular lady.
Anyway, he basically went on to try to find a way to blame me... he wonders if I am starving her, not getting enough calories into her. Says I was to bring her in to get weighed today, (she was weighed on Friday). He suspects she is wasting away (she is not). He is not impressed with feeding FF pates, is quite sure that is not helping her cause.
So, yeah. No, I did not take her to be weighed ... frankly I had other things to deal with today. Her BG is back up tonight, and I just gave her a drop of Lev again (as I said above... I am repeating myself, it seems). She just finished a 3 day course of prednisone last night. I am NOT taking her back in any time soon, unless something changes. I will keep her BG knocked down and watch her.. if she stays lower, and eats, I will give her a week to see if her pancreas calms and can deal on its own.
Anyone have a pancreatitus kitty who can tell me the normal length of time that it lasts? I know nothing about it.
