Hello everyone! I haven't posted in a while, just because my mum was staying with us and I didn't have the energy. There hasn't really been anything new to report. Mo's mood has been up and down. Some days purring, some days nothing at all.

I'm nervous and also excited for Mo's specialist appointment on the 2nd of Feb but we may only be able to afford 1 or 2 appointments as just the first appointment will cost $230 :blackeye:. To put that into perspective, my normal vet appointments cost $60. Hopefully we are able to get some answers and at least switch insulins, otherwise I won't go back. I did find a paper the specialist wrote and she recommends the Purina Vet Diet  Hopefully she doesn't make us switch otherwise I definitely won't be going back.

I hope you are all well :bighug:

Was thinking about you today, Katy, and wondering how you were doing. Moms can be a handful.:p Glad you were able to check in. Give Mo some scritches from me and Ruby!

    Been missing you. :bighug:
Your reply "I'm sorry, we tried it and he just won't eat it". ;) Remember, you are the client, the vet can't make you do anything.

Butters' old vet was very pushy with a diabetic prescription food when she was diagnosed. It was going to cost a fortune. It was before I found the board. Butters was eating raw and I couldn't figure out how this prescription dry food could be "healthier" for her.
He told me he would never be able to get her regulated without her being on prescription food, and then he made me sign off a piece of paper saying that he had recommended it and that I had refused it:rolleyes:. Anyhow, it was a very tough situation to navigate, but as Wendy said, you are the client. :bighug: Remember that.

Good luck with the new dose:bighug:.

I hope the specialist works out okay and you get what you need from the first appointment! And I hope Mo's mood picks up too.

I also had issues with a vet wanting me to feed Grem prescription food... NOPE! They tried again after his CKD diagnosis and again my answer was NOPE! The second time I took the food (wet) and told them what Wendy said. I still have the tin in the pantry somewhere, haha! If his first vet could see him now... (We had a disagreement over his treatment so I told them to shove it.)

Wow, that is ridiculous that they were pushing it when Butters was already on an excellent diet!! Just goes to show that vets should stick with what they're good at, and that's medicine NOT dietary advice! And look at how well Butters is doing now! Shame on that vet :bighug:

    Thanks Laura :)

We did start Mo out on prescription food but that was before I joined this group and knew any better. Now I know BETTER and will not be putting him back on it. It costs so much and is crap. Mo much prefers the food we feed him now! I think I will just have to say what Wendy suggested if it comes to that ;)

    Thanks so much :)
