2 units on Lantus instead of 1

Okay. So we gave our cat 2 units of Lantus instead of 1 for her nighttime feeding. Should we skip her morning insulin?? Should we rush her to the vet?? Should we stay up with her all night. We are new to all of this and her curve with the vet is this week to find out if she needed a higher dose. She eats a higher carb diabetic food from the vets and I have karo Syrup on hand. We are very afraid.

We haven't gotten any supplies yet. I'm running to walmart right now. I just don't know what we should be looking for in the mean time. Since the vet hasn't given a "set" dosage yet I'm not sure what to do.
 
Her glucose numbers were 200 something at the vet. I wanna say 260 or something along those lines. The food is Hill's Metabolic weight management.
 
How far away is Walmart? And can someone stay home with the cat?

A member has put together a list of testing equipment:

1. Relion micro or confirm meter (not Prime as it takes too big of a sample) $18
2. Box of 100 extra test strips $36
3. Box of 100 26 or 28 gauge lancets $3
4. Cotton cosmetic rounds
5. Neosporin ointment with pain relief

Pick up a couple of cans of Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers (if necessary, you will be feeding the gravy part only - just press the lid down on the open can to squish the gravy out).

I can't stay up but there are others around who are still up. (My lights keep flickering due to an ice storm.)
 
I'm so thankful for the list. I had no idea what all I needed. Someone will be home with her while I run to walmart. It's about 10 minutes away. Thank you everyone for all the support. What do we do in the morning?? Do we give her a normal dose if she is fine tonight?? Do we lower the dose??

What you do in the morning is dictated by the tests you will get tonight, it's impossible to say right now. Glad you are getting testing supplies, it's the only way to know what's going on and be able to keep her safe. :bighug:
 
Thanks for everything and all he thoughts and support. She is with the vet. She didn't do anything out of the ordinary last night. She wanted to eat this morning but I as terrified nonetheless. To be truthful I had no idea what I was looking for number wise and it ended up being a huge deal last night. We made the decision to her to the vet first thing this morning. The problem we run into with her is that her normal cat behavior is that of a sick cat. She has never played with toys. She sleeps most of the time, she doesn't like any kind of noise. If we sneeze she runs under a table. It's always been hard to tell if there is something wrong or not. Has anyone else had a cat like this with Diabetes?? How do you learn when it's something very serious??
 
Yes, my Max was very docile and shy. His numbers were much more accurate at Home because of that. He also had chronic pancreatitis. I judged how he was feeling by his appetite. Home testing will give you data so that you will know if the BG is too high or too low.
