Bit of a long post, but the situation is a bit complicated:

Thelonius was diagnosed back in November, and went on Lantus. He was improving quite a bit, but unfortunately I had a long-planned month-long trip that I left for in December and was out of the country until mid January. Thankfully, I was able to find people willing to take glucose measurements and administer his insulin at 0.5 units. To help assist with this, I put him on a schedule that feeds him his wet food every three hours.

He was getting some pretty low readings during the time I had a vet tech administering his shots, and several times where he was below 150 (I had told them not to administer as he would then be alone). Unfortunately due to a scheduling misunderstanding, he went a day without getting food and insulin in early January. Upon returning, and in reaction to the insulin appearing cloudy I bumped up his dosage to 0.75 units. When I finally was able to get a new pen, I brought him back down to 0.5 units, but his response hasn't been the best. I am not sure how the feeding schedule is effecting the readings I get during the day.

I think I want to move him to a TR method, what else should I do? I am not always able to get home during the day to take measurements, but I can try.

Hi to you and Thelonius,
Keep in mind that Lantus dosing is based on the lowest number of the cycle (the nadir). You haven't been able to check his blood glucose regularly at mid-cycle, so it is difficult to make recommendations. Since you can't test during the daytime cycle, you should make an effort to get in more tests during the evening cycle. Then some of the very knowledgeable people here will be able to guide you with regard to dose.
Many people have found that a main feeding at AMPS and PMPS (test, feed, shoot in that order, more or less simultaneously) and then a small snack at about +9 of each cycle works well. If you continue to feed the same amount of food every 3 hours your test results would probably be compromised by the constant presence of food acting on the blood glucose.

This is the post that Sandy was referring to about using TR and working full time. I worked full time and used TR. If you're able to get an early test in, that will help.

I do think you will need to get used to evaluating Thelonious' dose every 3 days. I think you've been holding your kitty's dose for too long but that's an easy fix!
 
Thanks for the tips! I am going to change his food schedule so the readings get a bit more meaningful.

I had been giving him food every three hours partially to stop him from constantly whining and knocking over the trash can, so hopefully this will work out.
 
Welcome back. If you can get tests at +2 as you go out the door for work, or +10 if you come home then, that will help us figure out what is happening during the day time cycles.
