2/9 Simon PMPS 112 +4 100

Simon was pretty impressive yesterday, starting out in the low blues but then surfing the rest of the day in the greens. I am hoping today is a repeat. I haven't been able to visit many condos lately because it is one of those weeks from hell. I have been working 10 hour work days and then I have something every night after work this week. I am too old for this!!

Simon is good this morning but looks like he has lost a little more weight. He eats everything I feed him but I guess since he isn't eating the dry food and all the table scraps and milk he used to get, he is going to lose weight. I am keeping a close eye on him and may feed him a little bit more because I don't want him to lose too much weight too quickly. He is 14 pounds, down from 15.5 when he was diagnosed in November. Is this too much of a weight loss?

not sure about the weight you might want to check with a vet about his optimal weight.
Simon's numbers sure look good though. Hope you get your green surf repeat today.

Is he eating enough? Do you restrict his food - would he eat more?

That is a fair amount of weight to lose in 2.5 months. I'd want to slow that down, just for a maintenance period to make sure his liver stays healthy. Keep him at a stable weight for a few weeks.

Good morning guys .. I know somewhere around here there is a formula for figuring out how many calories a day your kitty should be getting .. maybe someone can find it and link it in here for you .. anyways, I also hope simon has repeat of yesterdays numbers .. have a great day guys!

I limit Simon's food because he would eat all the time if I let him. He is always ready to eat. I have been feeding him about 8 oz of food a day but I will take Karrie's advice and give him a little more to eat since he wants more. I definitely do not want to stress his liver.

Every cat is different like every human. The best way to know if they are getting enough calories is to weigh them. If they still lose, feed more calories. It is advised to lose weight slowly and controlled. Some cats can get liver damage and start of the Feline hepatic lipidosis cycle. And if they've gone through a weight loss stage you want to do intermittent maintenance just in case. With Maverick we did blood work often to ensure his liver was handling weight loss as he almost died from FHL before. You are doing it smartly by monitoring weight. Thats actually how we caught Maverick's FD - a weight loss trend but no change in eating.
