Thank you for all of your healing vines and good thoughts for Sid. So far we are making it work without the feeding tube. I'm just a little upset that I can't get as much fluid into him as I could with that, but I just have to give him SQ (which he HATES).
Well he loves the duck and pea pill pockets
I bought a bag of each flavor just in case.
@Laurie, I saw your suggestion about reducing the dose for TID - I considered that too. Though today it looks like a TID day so far. His numbers concern me also and I wonder if he is getting enough insulin. Then on the other hand, there have been several times when the insulin lasts him almost 10 hours - that makes me wonder if I shouldn't increase the dose. Most of the time the Prozinc takes at least 3 hours to take effect when Sid is over 400. That is why I like to use a drop of R to bring him down faster and I think it works well if I feed him a couple of times on the prozinc. He has never even come close to hypo on the Prozinc with me, except maybe the day he was 62 at +6. That was definitely a rarity though. So I will post on the PZI board just to see if anyone there has ideas. I do appreciate your very thoughtful advice
AND how you stayed with me the other night when Sid was dropping.
I decided to do a spot check of one of my civvies just to see how the nova max glucometer fared. Ben was the volunteer and he was 76. It makes me feel a little better about the nova max. I feel it is more steady than the relion. What I've noticed with the ReliOn is that it stays right around the same range as the Nova Max below about 250. When it gets above 250 the range gets wider and when it is over 400, the ReliOn always reads HI. Not sure what to make of this so I'm just going to stick with the Nova Max for now and sometimes spot check with the Relion in case I need it as a back up.
@Michelle, I've given my cats those freeze dried treats for years. In fact Jake (ga) liked them very well. Of course, Sid does not!! Unfortunately!
