2-9 Bear/AMPS 439/+2.25 326/PMPS 338/+2 348/

Today is another momentous day.
Bear has basically been handicapped since the end of September 2018, when his Diabetic Neuropathy set in.
At his worst his front dew claws caught on the rugs and carpet, his back feet (hocks) were flat on the floor and his back was always arched like a hump back when he walked.
Bear wouldn't walk much, couldn't run or jump.
Our little girl cat Squantch has bullied him to the point that Bear would come to us for safety and flop at our feet.

Today the tables have turned and when Squantch started picking on Bear, he took a stand and decided that was enough.
He stood up for himself and when Squantch ran Bear (CHASED) her around the recliner, though the living room, down the hall into our bedroom and under the bed, with Squantch hissing the whole way.
Crazy as this sounds it was an amazing and heart warming thing to behold, the chase and to see Bear three quarters of his body under the bed, only his butt visible with Squantch hissing in defense cowering under the bed.
Finally, Bear is physically able to defend himself and showed Squantch he wasn't going to take her bullying anymore.

Also Bear jumped on the couch today. HOORAY! What wonderful progress today has shown!

Bear has better BG numbers and started on Zobaline for Diabetic Cats 2X a day on 11-18-18.

Sorry about the sibling battles, but good for Bear! I'm so glad to read about this kind of improvement, thanks to your wonderful care. Keep on keeping on, and here's to Bear "the mighty"!

Oh Yay! This gives me hope for our girl Willow, who has neuropathy (in?) both front feet. Her front left has been flippered since well before diagnosis (we thought it was hyperextension from an old injury), and her front right started dropping shortly after diagnosis. Since starting zobaline, her right is back up quite a bit, and Wayne thinks he saw her on her left toes for a moment yesterday! We just recently upped the zobaline to one tablet twice daily.
Thanks so much for sharing!

Weakness in the hind legs comes from damage to the nerves caused by constant high levels of sugar in the blood.
I read that BG needs to be below 300 to help heal the neuropathy. He needs low carbs to bring down the BG 3-4% is good unless he drops too low & you need to bring it up.
You might want to ask who ever is giving you does advice ( Wendy?) if an increase is needed.

Happy to hear he's doing better! :)

Yes, you are correct, neuropathy set in because Bear was not home monitored and had uncontrolled Diabetes.

Thank goodness Bear is at a point where his BG has been lower and from now to the cycle after his low event the documented BG is (50% are lower than 300.) I am sure this is part of the reason he is making progress recently. It is in Bear's SS that he is on low carb wet and has been since late Sept. but I will add this to his signature for those that don't see it or look at his SS.

Yes Wendy has been absolutely amazing with her advice and she does inform me when Bear is due a dose increase.

Happy to hear he's doing better!
Thank you.

Yay!! When Max started to develop neuropathy I was heartbroken! I was so afraid he wouldn't get better. I read that neuropathy can be reversible if the BG is lowered, and then you guys all recommended Zobaline. Still, I had my doubts and fears. But now, 21 days after starting Zobaline I can see improvement! His back legs are up much higher and he walks around the house more, he can walk for longer distances as well, and can even sometimes stand briefly up on his hind legs like he used to! We've still got a ways to go, but I know it takes time. He gets his two tablets every day and eats them up in his food like a champ.
