Back at it today with a AM reading at 80.
I got some new food selections for her to try. Wow hard to find food out there, shelves are bare… :(
I got one of the purina pro plan prime plus. It was on the list… they only had one flavor (salmon). She likes it! It has more calories than ff. I saw a few other flavors so maybe have to order those…

question - her back legs seem to hurt her… this was an issue I noticed back before then seemed to get better when her sugar leveled now seems like maybe weak again. What might this be and is there anything I can do?
She takes cosequin twice a day already the supplement
 
A difference is that arthritis is painful, while neuropathy may or may not hurt. Neuropathy can take a while to resolve, even after BG numbers are good. Then again, arthritis is very common in senior cats, and cosequin won't help more advanced arthritis enough.

How about rubbing her back paws gently to feel for weakness, and any resistance? Before my girl's neuropathy finally resolved, she had very weak, almost floppy back paws.

ok that’s good to know. Initially she was better when we stopped her insulin (she was getting too much and I didn’t realize it bc I didn’t know to check her sugars) she was low all the time and very lethargic. So when her sugars improved to normal levels she became more energetic and she was jumping up on the couch again. Now a week or week and half later she’s kinda starting to hesitate again, like it’s maybe hurting her. She seems a bit tired, but sugar is good. When I move her back legs around she doesn’t seem to mind too much.

ok actually when I touch up near the hip more like upper leg, she didn’t care for that :( is that something that may be affected by sugar?

I have a strong hunch that is arthritis, not glucose related. An xray will show advancing arthritis, but not when in early stages.
The world of arthritis treatment for cats is getting much better! Adequan helped Tina very much with her spinal and hip arthritis. And now there is excitement about a new treatment - monthly injections, of a monoclonal antibody, Solensia. Now FDA approved, it should be at larger vet's offices starting in the summer.
Cat stairs may be a good idea if you don't already have some!

I have kitty stairs, she loves them.
is it possible also to be that she wasn’t getting enough calories? I was concerned with that, just upped her intake.
i am very new to this and learning a lot daily. thanks to everyone here!!

On the food list,
Purina pro plan has a lot listed as options that I wasn’t able to locate at my local pet store or on chewy… but I did find one named purina pro plan complete essentials…. Do you happen to know if that may have been re named as one of the ones from the list? I think it was from a couple years ago so they change names all the time I’m sure.

Is adequan something I can get myself or is it from a vet? is there anything in addition to or instead of cosequin? I noticed the last batch I purchased had boswella in it… I’m not sure what that is.
The pain/weakness is fairly new so she may be in early stages.

You are welcome!
Mary, the Adequan is prescribed by vets, and still officially labeled for dogs and horses. It’s been used to help cats for over a decade though.
I’ve had vets suggest arthritis without xrays, by feeling and moving joints around. Our felines can start developing A as early as age six.
Boswella might be a hopeful herbal helper?!
Cosequin (and similar) is about all we can use without getting meds and or help from the vet.

Her +6 BG was 79… is that ok?
Honestly I think I am paranoid over everything :(
I was doing really well about being calmer then when she started being tired again I panicked
Maybe I’m stressing her out too checking on her every 5 min to see if she’s ok

Thanks so much for your advice! Her sugar wouldn’t really affect the arthritis right?

I have not followed up with her vet since the big changes she has made. I was waiting until perhaps she made her 2 weeks officially (and maybe had her cute video party :) too) then I can have some actual data chart to show him and then make an appointment. She was due for a 6 month check up for labs in February anyways for thyroid and all that. Might be a good time to discuss the arthritis treatment.

has anyone here ever used CBD for arthritis in cats? I know people have with dogs. Maybe that’s not advised though. Just thought I would ask :)

I used Zobaline for diabetic cats (I purchased through Amazon) from the time Tina was diagnosed with diabetes, and had terrible neuropathy which resolved . . . I never stopped using it. I know there is another, less expensive option through vitacost I believe. Feedback from our first (not favorite) vet, was that it probably wasn't any good . . . only good blood glucose control would help neuropathy. He was mostly right, but I still believed in the supplement!

When you make that regular vet visit, hopefully he/she will give some confidence on the arthritis possibilities through performing a good exam (sorry Chloe)! It's a bit rougher to diagnose when arthritis and neuropathy co-exist.

Oh --- CBD didn't help Tina very much, if at all. I know some people see help though; I tried for around 3 months.

I was able to order some of the zobaline, but won’t arrive till 23rd :( that’s ok at least I got it ordered. I’ll continue with the cosequin till then. Her sugars have been very controlled and hoping to celebrate OTJ 14 days next week! Yay Chloe!
