Well for lack of any other good reason for all the crazy numbers and China not seeming to be settling down, today I completely dropped feeding the RadCat and we'll just see what happens.

She's eaten some Fancy Feast throughout her entire journey, so IF the RC is the problem, we should know in the next few days I'd think.

IF she comes back down to more normal China numbers, I'll probably try the RC again just to see what happens...If she goes back up, I'll have a definitive answer that for whatever reason, the RadCat's just not for her

Wish us luck....or at least clarity!!

Wishing a lot of luck and hoping for clarity.

Very strange isn't it, if it's not carbs in the food I wonder what it is that's in there that may be affecting China's numbers. Or maybe the makers are just big fat liars and there are more carbs than they're saying??? Nothing like some experimentation to try and work it out :)

Note: the cat physiology can take a protein or a fat molecule, clip off the unneeded parts, and get carbohydrate out of it if needed.

Looking good China! I wish all mysteries were so easy to solve.

The RadCat chicken is zero carb according to Dr. Lisa's list, some cats do better with a little carbs. It's one of the reasons I haven't branched out much in the raw brands I give Neko. It's hard to find a raw with low phos and some but low carbs.

I think you might have your answer as well. Just sucks as that was one that should would eat. I am very interested to see what would happen if you added the RC back in. Are there any other raw options you can try if it ends up being the RC?

Since she refuses to eat the new Natures Variety formula, I've spent the last 6 months looking for another option that she'd eat....this was the first one she really seemed to like and was willing to eat more than once or twice (and I have the almost full bags of several other foods in the freezer to prove it!)

I may try Primal again, as it seems to be the most like the Natures Variety, but the last few times I tried it, it was a "no go"

The experiment isn't over yet....We're going to just feed the FF for another cycle or two and make sure it stays down and then try adding back in the RC and see if it goes all wonky again...Maybe I can find a "mix" of the two that will work too

Its a little bit of organic chemistry.
I'm doing this from recall without looking anything up, so there may be a few inaccuracies, but the gist of it is that your physiology can break apart molecules and rearrange the parts into what you need.
A carbohydrate molecule consists of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen with the hydrogen and oxygen hanging off the carbon backbone.
A protein molecule looks very much like this, plus it has a nitrogen molecule with hydrogen hanging off of it. Clip off that nitrogen and attached hydrogen, and voila, you have a carbohydrate.
A fat molecule such as a triglyceride, has chains of carbohydrate fastening onto a backbone called glycerol. Glycerol has some specific combinations of carbon and oxygen to make this backbone. Cut the chains of carbohydrate off the backbone, and there you are with carbs abounding.
