Labs are up.. 💖.. ugh. tysm for all of the continued support and concern.. thank you for helping to decipher things for us. it means so much to me and Pudgles. truly. thank you. 🥹🥺 (im falling asleep all over the place today.. please bear w me; hoping things make sense.. 🤡)

nugget had the best potty I've seen in the longest today!!!! yay!!!!! the fluids I think are definitely helping, along w the Miralax.. I woke up and saw, so glad haha.. at least there he must be feeling better. was a little lethargic this morning, tho, but doing better now! legs still bit weak but doing his best..

the vet appt went very very well.. I wasn't sure what to expect; just wanted his tests done. 😕.. and it was nice talking to a doctor talking some sense. she 100% thinks its probably an infection and was confused why a culture wasn't ordered before.. says that the first thing she thinks of if a cat has FD and suddenly the kidneys go wonky... is an infection. because of sugar in the urine, more prone to infections, etc....... I summarized to her all the mess of the past few months. she sympathized and just shook her head, we were like ?????? haha.. *cries. she also has older kitties with some challenges too so she's having her share of some things and disclosed some nice advices w me. (and ultimately we just agreed the state of things were a mess.. smh.)

anyway.. had blood done in house and blood came back showing his potassium is way low. phosphorus higher but she wasn't concerned on that (idk..) but says the potassium probably the reason for his difficulties walking, muscles, etc. she also said its important to get on this potassium situation because it can cause heart problems... prescribed a Renal K+ and just ordered (powder).. hopefully comes very soon; wanted to start it immediately.. and regular stores don't have it.. I called on dose today and was prescribed 1-2 scoops a day, ideally two, but at least 1 for next 5-7 days prior to recheck. also suggested B12..got the B12 and the litterboxes (below..) we go back in a week to see how its doing. the Culture and Sensitivity, along w urinalysis, done but culture takes a few days, and may or may not show cause he was just on antibiotics.. if necessary, a redo at the next appt. but they might show so had it done. she suggested a better litter box for his older legs, lower, etc (I feel BAD I didn't realize this.. but he got around pretty well.. 😭), using maybe 2 rn wherever closer he is, fluids upped to 100 mL but for time being w everything 75mL is ok to see if therapeutic enough? idk.. but would like to get the echo report back, cause sometimes he has little coughs.. esp when eating. :( overall, im so glad we went.. we needed to know where he is for his values. she was happy his kidney values were better somehow; creatinine went down.. idk. and actually have a number for BUN.. and now he really doesn't seem to like the binder... he doesn't eat those snacks/meals well.. will try to get some small capsules and pill every time?... will do best. ugh. trying to fit in all the things..

I'm still a little lost how to administer B12.. told could use the line, and if understood, just can put subcutaneous with a u100 syringe?.. idk. 😬💖 @Suzanne & Darcy @tiffmaxee

his BG numbers.. 💖💖..

.....so sleepy im sorry. 🥲 will update things and labs as they come in..

ugh...... 😭💞

You can put the B-12 in the IV line. It’s fine. I have done this before. Whatever is easier. A sub-q injection just like an insulin shot or inject it into the y-port on your IV line (if you have an extra pair of hands helping you to hold the needle and the Pudge!

Yes. Potassium is way low. Gotta get that up ASAP. Two scoops per day. Can definitely cause weakness.

Phosphorus is way out of range also and this high it can further damage his kidneys. We need that number down not only to help walking but to preserve what is left of his kidneys.

i didnt get any notifications.. just came to check.. ugh 🥲🫶🏼

oooh so i can just give it to him like insulin? everyday he’ll get some? i cant remember what vet told.. and B complex is separate frm this?.. 💘
Not surprising. That’s where the B-Complex comes in.
sigh.. and so he’d get the B12 and B complex too? doctors said B12 Better as injectable.. but B complex absorbs well orally??? 😭🤡🫶🏼 idk..

ok!! will get the two scoops in ~ ok to mix together w other things if needed, or best by itself?.. 💘 it supposedly comes today also!! in really hoping it does….. hes having like a little bit of bladder leakge laying down.. and tried making it in the box, but wasnt in far enough.. 🤡💘 ooh! i been just sprinkling a bitty bit, a light layer, on his food, and thats been going ok (the binder)!!! 😀 maybe i was putting too much.. 🙃

Did the vet say anything about upping the phosphorus binder (aluminum hydroxide)? Ditto what Suzanne said about potassium supplementation.
the vet wasnt concerned about phosphorus.. 🥲💀.. she said she didn't notice much in kidney cats she had.. but i was advised 1/2 tsp at most.. (?) im waiting to hear more after posting most recent labs, if we do.. and to do it slowly.. right now im trying to implement an 1/8.. 🤕❤️‍🩹

Potassium coming today i hope i hope!!! said it was.. 🥲🫶🏼

Here’s some stuff from the felinecrf website on B vitamin supplementation.

how much to add to his food?.. how to start giving?? Throughout the day?.. or if will eat, like its ok to put the scoop in one snack?.. im starting slowly tho.. like, not too much in one.. but i plan on trying to give him the two scoops starting immediately ~ okay??? 🤕🫶🏼

Right now I would not do less than 1/4 tsp. Aluminum Hydroxide.

I can’t understand an ignorant vet not being up to date on the fact that high phosphorus damages kidneys. It’s not even a subject of debate like the protein debate!

Sorry, but I am not in a good mood since a person who had just joined our Board last Friday had her cat killed by a vet who told her to give 2 units of insulin to a newly diagnosed cat with no home testing. Member listened to vet and went to work. Came home. Cat unconscious. ER vet. Cat’s BG was 17. Cat died. 11 year d otherwise healthy cat. I’m upset and angry right now so some of my “filters” are down and I’m telling it like it is!

I am not happy about a vet saying they’re unconcerned about a phosphorus level over 10! That’s just stupid.

Absolutely 🥰💘 trying to get in.. 🥲.. and i know….. i didnt say anything; im continuing his binder.

And OMG. 😰😖😖😖😖 2 u on a newly diagnosed?… vets generally dont know anything on FD. still. what a nightmare!!!

Good!!! Thats ok!!! 💘💘💘 we angry over here too! (The veterinary establishment is generally wretched useless trash! My cat is suffering rn because no one cared to look further into his drinking/urinations.. and we paid for help and advice!! Frm numerous “vets”…)

Thats just horrifying… i am so so sad for them. :(

And the fact of the matter is.. it is true. Some of these vets will kill your animals. Its a jungle out here.. 😕 thank god for the people doing the work cuz where would we be? ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹💖….. thats just awful. we have to be their doctors really..

A reading of 17…….. What recourse do they have? can they do something legally? 😭….

PS. im still hearing vets say 200-300 isnt bad for numbers……. 🙄

this is just hideous to here. i am sorry…..

ohohoho…. You know One time, nugget got put on antibiotics right.. some years ago. vet pilled him at the appt. i think it’d been a while since he’d eaten.. that clown said nothing. not much later i held him while he was violently sick vomiting near his box.. horrible!!!!!!!! needless to say i NEVER went back.. some fool puts him on meds on an empty stomach..

these vets are garbage. i am happy this vet is taking his kidney infection seriously.. and was like, what were they doing? yes you order a culture.. but i know. truth is i always try to check what we’re told here anyway too.. so.. theres that. 🤡🫶🏼💖

The new vet does sound better than the previous one(s). Maybe they’re just trying to not tackle too many things at one time. Who knows?
i think so a little too at least w that.. 🫶🏼💘 and maybe so, who knows? right.. (im wondering on the echo.. hes having more frequent small coughs…… i hope it was read ok… idk… 🫤❤️‍🩹…… he does have a little cold/congestion..)
