Hooray for Friday! Sarge is on Day 3 of his no Cosequin trial. Morning numbers are coming down. Hopefully the results of his urine culture will be back today. I suspect it will be negative judging from how much better is he acting. Happy almost weekend :)

Thank goodness for +2 tests. Had a feeling Sarge was on the move today. Came home for lunch and he was at 41. Looks like reduction earned. He is going to come to work with me so I can keep an eye on him. It's days like this that I really love were I work!

Good catch today Alison! Looks like Sarge really wanted that reduction. :D Thank goodness for pet friendly work places.

Interesting on the Cosequin seeming to affect his numbers.

My boss is awesome! She says we would have an office cat if it weren't for the lab. I sent her a picture of Sarge in my desk chair with "thanks from our newest recruit." She replied he is welcome anytime :)

Since the reduction I have been doing some research and it seems in some individuals glucosamine can induce or exacerbate insulin resistance. Our original plan after the no Cosequin trial was to go to an injectable version. However, after such a dramatic response in abstaining just three days I'm not sure I want to try it. I don't think it is a flavoring that is the problem. I think it is the glucosamine itself. ECID and it seems to mess with his chemistry.

You might want to talk to your vet about Adequan or is that the injectable you are talking about? I was told is quite a different form of glucosamine. If he's not on fish oil, I'd add that to his diet. It's a anti-inflammatory. Neko also gets hyaluronic acid in the form of Hyaflex.

I don't know what the injectable was going to be but the research I did last night seems to say glucosamine is the issue. It would seem the increased traffic through the hexosamine pathway can result in the desensitization of the glucose transport pathway. It just makes too much sense in Sarge's case. I shared the publications I found with his vet and she said we better skip the injectable. She did some research on EFA's and proposed that we get Sarge regulated and then try fish oil. That way if the EFA's give him any trouble it will be obvious. I have been thinking fish oil would do him good overall anyway so I am excited to give it a try. I know it makes the shoulder I messed up pretty good feel better :)
