2/6 Moses AMPS PMPS 275 +4~130

Moses is climbing back into the yellows! And we don't like it! :evil:

It could be because:
1. The .75u is truly hard to get. I could be shooting closer to .5u just b/c in between the dashes is so hard to read.
2. The cartridge he's been using was at it's 28th day on 2/4 (last Thursday). Less effective, maybe?
3. Random HC treats throughout day for testing.
4. Yesterday, to switch him to a healthier treat, we did a treat taste test (6 treats) right before his PMPS.

Would you have any suggestions on how to bring him down? Or is this something we need to just wait out? :sad:

I'm leaning towards the HC treats.

If u are around today to grab some more checks, we could see how he does with the treat switch.

Have u tried to practice measuring the .75 with a sample syringe?

I agree with Ronnie (but I am a newbie Erica you know that) it could be the HC treats. Cut those out and see what happens. I am going to take a look at your SS.

ETA - have you been giving the HC treats all along or was that something new?

Yes, I'll need to go out and buy that Wellness treat today perhaps, and return those Greenies. I don't know when I'll have the time b/c I'm going to a volunteer orientation today between his +3 and +10 so today's not a great test day. Hmmm, where's that Greenies reciept? :smile:

No, I haven't practiced with a sample syringe. What's that?

take a few used syringes and measure the dose with something coloured, like wine, fruit juice, milk even

That's a good idea, so you can see where the color lines up in the syringe. Okay, I'll try it.

I'm still concerned about Moses' yellow.... I'll try to pick up those Wellness treats and do a syringe sample. I don't want to lose the decrease he just earned but I don't think climbing into the yellows is good.

Are you on Lantus? I tried to check on your ss but didn't see it...sorry...some find that it looses it's potency after 28 days but others get more mileage out of their cart.
You did say you were giving him lots of treats...so that might be the easiest to change. HC foods really change the numbers so I would eliminate those first....have fun today! :-D

Yes, Moses is on Lantus. The treats would be the easiest to change.... Easy is good. :mrgreen:

Erica! Go buy on line--Halo livalittle dried chicken Treats! $6-7 each, protein only, cats love these--I give as treats for everything!
Or, give cooked chicken--They also come in dried salmon, beef(dried treats)--Much better for Moses!
And if you see the numbers going up, change the cart, it could be the insulin....
When in doubt, explore the possibilities! You are still doing a good job, despite the numbers--
Look at the Whole Cat! That's what matters..

So it's official, Moses is climbing. Thanks for your support everybody. But sadly I feel like we've lost 1 month of progress in just the past 3 days :evil:

And today has just been one of those really bad days for me, in a bunch of other areas, so I feel I haven't had the opportunity to test/monitor/try new things. So I'm totally frustrated now.

From the day's replies, the consensus of reasons for this climbing BG is too many Greenies? and perhaps an expired cartridge?

I can try new treats and change the cartridge, but are there any other suggestions. My gut is telling me that it's something major. Or it could be telling me I'm hungry, ha!

WCR: He's a good, tired boy. Very talkative and bossy today. Meowing a lot!

Please come back down, Moses? Why this funkiness, funky boy? cat_pet_icon

sorry about the crappy day for urself, dont let it get u down, ur doing a good job with taking care of Moses, okey-dokey?

- as for the lantus - if ur in doubt toss it and start a fresh one
- switch to a good treat

and if u can see what's happening tonight with a couple of spotchecks it may shed more light on things.

other thoughts - any reason to suspect any infection? hows the teeth?

Or he's bouncing from lower numbers in mid-cycle, or you also mention that your dosing might not be consistent and that can cause the shed to get messy. If you can get some mid-cycle tests tonight and tomorrow, and find a way to measure the dose consistently, we can see if he is bouncing or if maybe his dose needs to go back up.

Moses had a few yellow pre-shot tests a month or so ago and came back down. Not having the mid-cycle checks means you don't know what's been going on -- there may have been a low number and the yellow is a bounce.

Definitely get rid of the Greenies. My guys lovethe Wellness treats!

Try a new cartridge. It certainly can't hurt!

If nothing changes, sometimes you need to bring a dose up in order to regain momentum. Also, step back and look at Moses' SS. There is no way you have lost a month of progress. A month ago, Moses was mostly in the pinks.

Okay, I'll get some mid cycles tonight...

I work tomorrow so I won't be able to get AM mid cycles, but I'm off on Wednesday. Thank you for your help.

Oh, and sadly, Moses teeth aren't so great, from how the vet described. The vet said Moses' had "necrotic breath" and a bit of tartar. And when I asked about the issues she said my priorities are:

1. Diabetes
2. Heart Arrhythmia
3. Cyst (under his right arm)

I'll go get a test now.
 
It felt good to see that 130. Bad news = it took 4 Greenies to get it.

Worse news = I only have 5 more testing strips. :-x

Yuck! I barely feel comfortable only having 5 test strips for tomorrow... I'll have to go to Walmart after work on Monday. Meaning I can't get any more tests other than basic AMPS and PMPS until Monday. I know it's not ideal, but there's nothing else I can do. blah.

Makes me mad!

And (b/c I type way too much already!) I don't even want to get into the story of trying to get the Wellness treats from 2 Petco stores today so he'd have them tonight. Awful.

Moses looks happy though :smile: There's this red couch chair near my computer, and it's turned facing me. And he'll prop himself against the side, and sit like an old man with his belly hanging out. And it always seems like he's supervising what I do on the computer.

Honestly, grabbing him and going to beddy sounds really good for right now. Thank you everyone for you input. I plan on acting on these things as soon as I can breathe in a new day. Out with the bad, in with the good! Goooodnight!
