Good Morning, LL
It seems its one step forward and two steps back around here. I didn't give Blackie the Mirtazapine last night to see if he still needed it. He ate really well at +2 and +4 last night, but would not eat at all at +6.5. But he may have just been full. Then this morning I gave him his pepcid and ondansetron at +11.5 and Blackie at all of his food at shot time. :-D But an hour later right before I gave him his fluids, Blackie vomited. It looked like most of the food had been digested and I'm hoping that the pepcid, ondansetron and his Pred got absorbed. He would not eat after his fluids either, but I'll try again at +2.

Other than that, Blackie seems okay. All P's are in place and he's been sleeping well and no more staring into space.

Thank you for the contiued healing and eating vines. I think we still need them. And I'm sending prayers for Whiskers and Rocket and I hope Sooty is still better too.

Re: 2/6 Blackie amps 235

Hi Ele,
Sorry to hear about the vomit, but I'll bet that some of the medicine was absorbed. Maybe he ate too much all at once, or ate it too quickly. At least he's eating!
Have a good day today, guys, and Blackie: let's continue to eat your food. Food is good for you!
Happy Eating Vines are on the way this morning.

Hugs,
Ella & Rusty

Re: 2/6 Blackie amps 235

Sorry on the vomit too, i hope it was just scarf and barf like Ella said. Come on Blackie, you need that stuff!

Re: 2/6 Blackie amps 235 +2 236

I gave Blackie a little FF Medleys with his LC food at +2 to get him to eat and he ate about half of it. He ate the rest of the food at +2.5.

Another day to relax for you, I hope.

Blackie ate some of his Wellness Turket at +6, but not all of it. Then he pooped again (about 6 hours since last poop). There was red/blood in the poop! He is not constipated, so I don't know what has caused this. I guess I'll take a fecal sample into the vet tomorrow. ohmygod_smile Now what!?!

Can pred cause GI bleeds? Sending hugs.

Edit this article says that pancreatitis is an uncommon cause of blood in stool. http://cats.lovetoknow.com/Cat_Health_Blood_in_Stool along with a whole bunch of things ;)

A number of sites say in an older cat it could be due to bacterial infections.

"Do not give prednisone if your cat is suffering from an infection. Since prednisone impairs the natural immune system, she will find it harder to fight off infections" - not sure if this is the same for prednisilone?

The vet should know what you are dealing with. I'll be watching for updates.

Hematochezia, which is bright red blood in the stool, normally is a result of lower GI bleeding (as opposed to melena, or black tarry stool from upper GI bleeding). It can have many different causes, from stress or diet issues to parasites to things that are quite serious. It might be a one-time episode, or it might happen again. It is something I see very frequently in my IBD/lymphoma civie. I think you are taking a good precaution by having the vet check it out. I am somewhat interested to see some sign of GI bleeding in light of Blackie's downward PCV trend. The PCV is more likely to be a result of kidney issues (non regenerative), but it might be something worth asking the vet about.

Linda, you are so knowledgable, it knocks me out! :-D Thank you so much for the info. I will do my best to get a sample to take to the vet in the morning. I have to make sure that I beat the drooler to the LB. He knows the sound of the Breeze pellets being kicked around.
