Discouraged again. I guess I need to accept that remission might not be possible or at least not quickly like we thought at first. Max was crying for food at 5 a.m. but I didn't feed him. I tested early at 6:30 and gave him his amlodipine and baby food. He got his 1.25 at 6:55. I emailed my vet his ss. OT question, any ideas on how to clip a claw that is too close to the paw to get my scissors type clippers in there? It's been 3 months since his last work-up so I might need to visit the vet next week for this and new tests but was hoping to hold off a bit until things are looking better. I'm a bit worried that all this protein will show up in his creatinine.

Oh, I'm sorry you are feeling down  . Don't give up hope, these kitties can surprise us! You're doing a great job by taking care of Max like this.

I'm not sure on the clipping question, hopefully someone can jump on and help with that. Maybe add "claw trim?" or something like that to your subject with the ? icon if you don't get an answer:) I hope your day goes good! :-D

Re: 2/5Max/EliseAMPS344

I don't have any answers for you. Hang in there. The #s will come down, but you just need to have more patience. FWIW, Blackie is still on insulin, and she's going on 4 years this March. I'm not sure if she'll ever go into remission, however, she is regulated now. You just don't know what the kitties will do. Perhaps Max will go into remission, and then again, perhaps not. That's something you need to contend with should that time come. It's the reality of FD. I hope that Max does. Be prepared if he doesn't.

don't be discouraged, elise! this is a long-haul disease - but Max is still very early on in it and is still on a pretty low dose. I wouldn't give up at all!!!! you just haven't hit the right dose yet, but he'll get there. :YMHUG:

Re: 2/5Max/EliseAMPS344+7=227PMPS266

I'm not giving up but it is frustrating. He hasn't been the same cat for the last year and that was before diabetes. He spends all his time in my bedroom and doesn't go to his condos at all. He eats, sleeps, eats, sleeps, and comes up to me to be brushed once a night and lays on my chest when I'm in bad for some TLC. The rest of the time he is under my bed. I wish he could tell me how he feels. If it's pancreatitis he's not acting like it because he becomes inappetent. That has been his only symptom. If he can get his BG numbers at the right level perhaps I will see I change. I sure hope so.

Re: 2/5Max/EliseAMPS344+7=227PMPS266

sometimes pancreatitis can be chronic, ie simmering and making them not feel good. i have no idea if that's the case with Max.

i hope he feels better soon. it does sound like he's not feeling good. if you're not seeing that he feels better soon, you might ask the vet about treating him as though the pancreatitis is still present. Vit b12 injections can really help - you start out giving them once a week then move out gradually to a maintenance dose of once a month. that made a big difference with punkin. if he needs them (per the vet) fluids are part of the treatment for pancreatitis as well.

Marje did a post on pancreatitis - it's on the New to the Group sticky in the links at the bottom. I'm sorta thinking you've already seen it, but i could be mixed up on that. if not, perhaps there's something new to you in the information that would help max.

Max does have chronic pancreatitis and this has been going on for 4 years. We treat him with ondansetron for nausea and buprenex if he appears to be in pain. Either he isn't having an episode or diabetes makes him hungry because inappetence is the only symptom he always gets . He doesn't need B12 and doesn't have EPI. I think his chronic panc led to diabetes. We stopped testing with the fPL unless he is symptomatic because he always has it lurking.
