Steve is great and well fed. Allie is tired and going back to sleep for awhile.

Re: 2/5 Steve AMPS 325

After the exciting night you had you deserve extra rest! Give Steve some scritches for doing so well!

Re: 2/5 Steve AMPS 325

You poor thing :(
Hope you get a good nap or two in today :)

So glad all worked out for you last night. Sending good vibes for more “peaceful” good numbers

Re: 2/5 Steve AMPS 325

We had a good restful morning and balance in the universe and the BGs seems to be restored. I hope!

Steve's BG today was +4 102, and +5 73. He's acting fine, so I'm not doing additional testing pokes yet. I keep thinking that the lower numbers are because of the new meter. That or he just doesn't like any flavor of food besides the fishy ones. I keep trying to get him to go for chicken, turkey, or beef...but he isn't having it. I read here that too much fish food can be bad for them. Any thoughts?

Re: 2/5 Steve AMPS 325,+4 102,+5 73

That's true, Allie. Too much mercury and too much phosphorus for a steady diet.

Numbers look very good today.

+6 @ 100...and wow our little mini curve has almost perfect symmetry. I feel like Adrian Monk because I'm enjoying that symmetry too much!

Sue, that's exactly what I thought I'd read about the fish. I've read here that I should keep it to around 2 cans a week of fish. Sadly, it is almost the exact opposite. He eats about 2 cans a week of the other stuff (he is fed WAAAY more than two cans a week of the other stuff).

The thing I don't know how to handle is that he sort of does a little hunger strike when there is chicken, turkey, beef, etc (basically anything that has feet). I don't want him to induce a hypo because he is a brat cat and wants to get his way. I'll keep trying, but I can't go for that long with out him eating when his BG's are that low. In the meantime, I'm gonna keep looking for another brand/flavor and see if I can get it to appeal to his discerning palate.

So what brands have you tried? Have you tried sprinkling the Fortiflora or some of his favorite treats into the wet food? You could also hide some of his favorite fish in a chicken or beef selection so he has to hunt for it and hopefully gets some of the other in the way?

You have to outsmart him, Allie, and as we know, they are pretty hard to outsmart!

Asher was "fish in aspic" fiend. Man, that stuff was gross but he loved it. And his brother is super finicky and was addicted to dry food. We got them both eating Blue Buffalo Wilderness canned chicken and it seems to be working. I tried switching the flavor to duck or turkey (same brand) and we get turned up noses, but the chicken flavor they like. We buy online so it’s cheaper, 88 cents a can vs $ 1.40-ish at PetSmart.

Another idea is Bonito flakes, Allie. They are freeze dried fish flakes - easy to crumble onto other flavors with very fishy smell. I bought them at PetSmart.

Nice numbers! My guys are nuts for the fish, but three of them love the Weruva chicken. It's almost like the canned chicken you can buy in the grocery store, but more shredded.

Re: 2/5 Steve AMPS 325....PMPS 375, +3 191

PMPS= 375
+3 191

Sue, I haven't tried FortiFlora. I tore a page out of your Bonito flakes book (my PetSmart doesn't have that). I have freeze dried salmon and sprinkled some of the "dust" on FF turkey and giblets for dinner and that really did seem help. Yay! We've tried both the purina and hills diabetes wet food, Blue Buffalo, and Fancy Feast. The only one he'll eat is fancy feast. I haven't tried other brands yet.

Kristen where did you find the Weruva?
