Michelangelo and Henry are both fine. My sister's family cat, however, unfortunately passed away quite suddenly last night after throwing a blood clot. Sylvester (aka Sly-man) was only 9 and was a much beloved family member. My ten-year-old nephew took it really hard and was crying over Sly-man's body and didn't want to leave him at the vet last night. My eleven-year-old niece is probably taking it the hardest even though my sister has said she's cried the least. Sly was my niece's best companion and her "living journal," to whom she would tell all her deepest secrets and complain about her brother and her parents in the strictest confidence. She says she never ever wants another cat again because she doesn't ever want to go through something like this and she will never be able to love another cat as much as Sly-man. I know how she feels because that's how I felt after my Patrick passed away. I found myself crying this morning over Sly-man even though I didn't know him very well (my sister lives in Portland). Whenever I would visit, he was my "sleeping buddy" and always shared the guest room with me. My sister thought it was funny and more proof of how much of a cat lady I've always been because I was the only guest of theirs that Sly ever slept with.

Requiem Æternam, Sly-man. You will be missed.

Fly free dearest Sly-man you were much loved and will be sorely missed.

The death of a pet is so hard to explain to kids. Especially when it is so sudden.

We all know that Sly-man is already sitting up a the Bridge looking over all the kitties about to be born or already here and paw picking his family's new friend. And when the time is right some little fluffy bundle of joy will sneak in on velvet paws.

Here are Michelangelo's and Henry's "cousins," Leonardo the dog and Sylvester (Sly) the cat. Henry has always reminded me of Sly, in coloring, fluffy furriness, and in personality (they're both hunters and "outdoors men").

Aww... I'm so sorry to hear of Sly-man's passing. I think it's one of the hardest things in the world to lose a fur baby, and I understand those feelings of not thinking you could ever love another fur baby the same. You don't love another the same, but there's always lots of love in its many forms to give. When I got Max, I had recently lost two kitties somewhat close together that I had grown up with from my kid days. It was devastating. The one thing that made feel better was to "rescue" Max from a shelter. Kind of tribute to my other kitties that had passed on that they could save another kitty that needed a home. I didn't get Max right away though. I needed some time to mourn.

My other kitty is a Sylvester... we call him Sylly, but his old vet always called him Sly. And he too is a Tuxedo. I feel for you.

So sorry about Sly-man and how his passing is causing so much pain. Watching kids learn and experience the pain of death is so difficult. Fly free Sly-man - go safely to the Bridge where all kinds of wonder awaits.

Thanks, everyone. It's tough right now for them. I wish I were there to hug them!
