YESTERDAY:
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...-153-4-5-117-6-5-118-pmps-187-3-5-155.132581/

He's just not hitting green and I don't get it. He woke me meowing this morning and I thought just maybe he would be low but he's mellow yellow.

Vines and prayers to all in need. My DM is not any better but the doctor is waiting until Friday to do a UA. Scary times around here. Her cardiologist was sick so that appointment was cancelled but they did call to say her echo showed more narrowing although not as big a change as the last time.

Morning, guys. :coffee: Sending tons of positive thoughts, healing vines, and prayers your way, Elise for your Mom, and Max. I hope that Max gives you a lovely surf in better #s today, and every day. Hang in there. :bighug:

Hmmm..Max, slide down for your mamma bean please! I was looking at his ss just now..Im by far no expert, but am wondering if maybe, just maybe he is dropping lower at night?? his numbers trend down after pmps, and then your final test at +5 numbers are still dropping. Then at amps, he is yellow. So could he be coming up in the am from low at night? Its a longshot perhaps I know. Or.. maybe he just needs a little bump to get him back to business. Of course, you know him best.. Just thinking out loud and wanted to share my thoughts. I really hope you see improvement soon. Vines for your mom also..

He's getting the occasional green, but not in the usual Max fashion. He must just need a post-dental jumpstart to get himself back to the lagoon more consistently. Is he still on ABs from the dental? If so, maybe that's affecting his BGs.

Sending tons of prayers for all of you, Elise :bighug:.

No antibiotics. He got an injection instead. As for dropping after the +5, I wish. However some were 5.5 and he was surfing. He's been very vocal today but not super hungry. We may need to run a thyroid panel if still acting off by Wednesday. My vet doesn't believe in running dental X-rays unless he sees something suspicious. Who knows. He is steady niw so maybe today will be the day it kicks in.

I wonder if he needs another AB...maybe there is some sort of underlying infection from the dental??? Just a thought....

Too bad about the x-rays. For Trix, she went in thinking we'd be doing only one extraction because she was missing so many teeth to begin with. When the vetty did the pre-dental x-ray, she found that 6 teeth had broken off and the roots were still under her gum line, causing irritation, so she basically unexpectedly ended up with the equivalent of 7 extractions. Even the vet was surprised.

Hi. I'll see what my vet says about it Wednesday unless I see signs of a problem sooner and need to bring him in. He had two broken teeth that weren't under the gum line and one big cavity that was and he got stitches. If there doesn't appear to be an infection or reason I'll ask about the possibility. He seems okay though. No more weight loss since I last checked. Did go from 16 lbs 3 oz a week before the dental to 15 pounds 14 1/2 oz. and holding there.

Max, you and China quit lollygaggin' an come hang out with me on the shore. I can hear the water in the lagoon from where I am. I need someone to help cook the hotdogs! - Cinco

Sending tons of vines and prayers for your DM and appy vines for Max. I hope all is healing well in his mouth and it's just the spring weather that's affecting him. My kitties always eat less as it warms up (not that it was ever cold this year).

Actually, I'm not concerned about his appy. He needs to lose weight and his appy is mostly good. I don't like his numbers though and I think I should raise him sooner than later. I'm glad Cinco has been hanging in the lagoon, Tricia.

Hi Elise sending prayers for your mom. Maybe we will see more green in the next cycle or two. If not, you are good at raising the insulin a bit.

Thanks Carla and Catherine. I do think he will likely need more insulin whether because the antibiotic shot didn't work or just because.

Hi Max and Elise! I hope Max gets back down to the lagoon again soon. Maybe his mouth is still a little sore and that is affecting his numbers. I know his dental was a week or so ago, but I'm thinking that when I got my wisdom teeth out, it took closer to 2 weeks to feel totally back to normal. I'm not a cat, of course, but maybe it's similar. Sending vines to your mom.

Thanks Deanna. You raise a good point. In addition his appy is off so far tonight. He didn't eat his dinner. I gave him a few fd turkey pieces which he did eat so I think I will try a little baby food and see if he eats it. Of course I'm now getting scared about the Convenia shot.:arghh:

hi elise! had to come check in on you and my favorite Max! i'm sorry your mom isn't doing better - there is fearsome crud going around. i've been flat on my back for the entire week. i hope you get good news when she does get to see her doc next.

i think he needs a little more juice . . .

ah, just saw your last post. the only issues with convenia are 1) if he's allergic to it you can't "stop" the drug's action for 2 weeks and 2) it isn't necessarily good for mouth bacteria issues. it was developed for skin infections. i think it seems fairly effective against bladder infections but mouth bacteria are often anaerobic. clindamycin is good for anaerobic bacteria - i don't know what else also works against them.

I think you're out of the woods with the Convenia. I totally understand the anxiety because I was pretty frantic after Billie got the shot...so of course, I read every horror story I could find on the internet because I figured why not totally freak myself out? But from what I read, allergic reactions to Convenia show up very soon after the shot - usually within the first 24 hours but at least within the first 3 days. Since it has been over a week, I wouldn't worry.

i agree with Deanna - if he was going to be allergic to it, it'd have shown up by now. i don't think you have to worry about that at this point. it may be that there is some infection brewing that it hasn't worked on, though. i could tell punkin had an infection because he pawed at one side of his mouth.

Thanks Julie. I'm sorry you've been sick and hope the worst is over.

With my mom it's a UTI again that either is not gone or it"s mental stuff.

Max didn't have any issues with Convenia last time. Funny thing is a few years back when he had a tooth pulled he was given clindamycin. I have an appointment for Wednesday but if he doesn't seem better might try and get seen Monday.

I'm going to fatten the insulin tomorrow morning unless something happens tonight which I seriously doubt will happen. Or do you think he needs a full .25? I was going to do the usual .15mm

I just saw your posts. I'm glad about the Convenia likely not an issue. He isn't pawing at his mouth but has been more withdrawn than usual. He hasn't slept on my bed the last couple of nights. I guess he could just be sore as well???

hard to say. typically you have to go up the full 0.25u to get on top of numbers but can reduce just by shaving. i don't know - he had green on this dose 3 nights ago . . . so you might be able to get him greener with just a smaller increment. it's up to you.

your mom has had such a rough time. my heart goes out to you, elise. it's so hard.

He didn't move from my bed since he ate the baby food and didn't eat the cat food so I wasn't surprised that his BG isn't comung down. If things don't change by the morning I'll call the vet. Maybe he does have an infection after all.

If Max was my kitty and I was around to test as much as you do, I'd increase by 0.25u and try to kickstart those greens back. He might only need it a cycle or two.

Sending many prayers for your mom, Elise.

Thanks Marje. I'll do it.

Max just scared me. I got him up from sleeping and took him to test. He started growling and making horrible noises like he has only done one other time which was when he was low. He wasn't low though. Maybe I got him out of a deep sleep and scared him? I don't know. But it was scary.
