Re: 2/5 Enana PMPS 145 +1 222, +2 160 Ketones 0.1 Question?

Thank you for the words of encouragement. You all have been so great and supportive.
//////////////////////////////////////////// that was Gordo....

I bought Hill's m/d dry food to put out for him. He doesn't like it. He hasn't eaten much since I brought Enana back. They used to have food at all times. My vet told me to have food available at all times, so I bought Hill's.

Re: 2/5 Enana PMPS 173, +1 222 Question?

Is there a reason why Gordo can't eat what you're giving Enana?

In all of the day's rush, has anyone given you the link for Janet & Binky's food list? Nutritional values of a lot of good food choices:

I leave the wet FF out for Kitty, without problems. He grazes through the day. You can also get an automated feeder with an ice pack -- keeps the food cool all day.

Not a bad +1. Glad you're on top of the ketone testing.

Re: 2/5 Enana PMPS 173, +1 222 Question?

Gordo is a 20 pound cat that thinks is a dog ;-) He has never ever eaten anything but dry food. No tuna, no chicken, nothing. He tastes it, but doesn't eat much.
I had dry food out 24 hours a day.

Since Enana is back from the hospital I have put Fancy Feast for him too...he doesn't eat it, he didn't eat at all yesterday, so I tried the Hill's m/d. I feel guilty and I put it away and then put it back out.I know I shouldn't put dry food out, but I have to transition Gordo somehow. Dont know what else to do.

Re: 2/5 Enana PMPS 173, +1 222 Question?

A trick that people here use is to crumble some dry food on top of Gordo's wet food, just to get him to eat some of it. (Sneaky, huh?) You can also try heating the food in the microwave (maybe 7 seconds -- test to be sure it isn't too hot), which makes it smell more, which they read as more appetizing. Some people find that crumbling parmesan cheese on the food makes it more appealing.

A lot of us sprinkle the freeze-dried chicken treats on the wet food -- cats seem to be crazy for it.

Kitty was totally addicted to dry food, but he made the transition gradually.

Don't feel guilty!! You love your animals, it's clear. We all are learning every day.

Re: 2/5 Enana PMPS 173, +1 222 Question?

Some cats are dry food addicts. Lisa Pierson, DVM is a vet who is very interested in feline nutrition. Her website is great and will provide you with information on how to transition Gordo to canned food.

When Gabby was diagnosed, I was feeding her one food and my kitten something else. Gabby hated the Hill's prescription food and would try to eat the kitten's food and the kitten would eat anything. Once I put them both on LC food, it made my life much easier!

BG +2 160 Ketones 0.1 on Precision Xtra! NICEEE!

@Kathy those frozen-dried chicken treat can be found at the pet store? I'll try anything! I dont want him to be diabetic also...he's called Gordo for a reason...his a big cat too.

I'll try cheese!

I so heat it in the microwave and put it out. Enana likes it...him, ehhhh.

I do love my animals.

@Sienne. Thanks for the website. I'll check it out.

He is going to eat wet food eventually, and be called ex-Gordo. ;)

Nite ladies and thank you thank you for all your help and patience with me!

Kathy...I was reading Kitty profile and you said the vet told you to roll the bottle. Do you mean to mix it the insulin? Is that bad?! :dizcat:

Do NOT roll the bottle.

You will not have ruined your bottle if you have been doing that, but it's not a good practice. Other insulins are treated that way, but Lantus is more fragile.

Sorry if I was confusing! If you saw our story, then you know how much better you are doing right off the bat.

wow! Sorry you had to go through that.

I have been rolling it, but very slow. I'll stop immediately!

Thanks again for everything.

I'm sure it's fine.

You can see why I'm so happy your vet supports home-testing. Props to him/her!

Heading to bed now, but the gang will be here tomorrow, same cat time, same cat channel! Have a good night. You did great. :-D
