Hello everyone! Long time, no talk! I am feeling a little guilty coming on and posting this since I have not been on the board in forever. :-| But, I am at a loss and I know there is a lot good advice here.
I did notice a lot of good numbers so I'm happy so many kitties are doing well. Bob is just ok. We are up to 4.5 units of lantus, he will not eat the "good" dry food (Orijen) any longer and only wants the disgusting Purina DM. But he is also eating the wellness turkey with lots of water in it. His fructosemine tests are coming in at "fairly regulated" and any spot checks I do are usually around 200s, 300s. This I can accept (although I don't like it) as I knew this is how it would be when I decided not to go ahead with the TR. What I can't deal with is whatever his issue is now. The doctor thinks it could be pancreatitis coming and going. The way they treat this type of thing is just to try and treat the symptoms at the time he is having them. She does not recommend anything more invasive unless he is showing some of the more serious symptoms (like not eating). He is swallowing very hard at times and his belly is tight (when I had xrays done a few months ago, his stomach lining was thickened, which is also a sign of excess acid). He is still eating and drinking and sometimes has energy, but sometimes is extra sleepy too. I've been giving him 5 mg of Prilosec every night and it seems to help but not 100%. I can't stand the thought of his throat burning. I've read about licorice, slippery elm and marshmallow being some natural remedies. I have an apt with my vet next week and I've made an apt with a holistic vet but it's not until July. I also read that a low protein, low fat diet will help. That obviously doesn't work with his diabetes. Sigh. Poor little guy. If anyone has experience with this and has any advice, I would be SO GRATEFUL to hear it.
I hope everyone is doing well. I'm going to take a look around the board now.... thanks!
