Max has a ravenous appetite now just like way back when he was first diagnosed. If I don’t watch him, he will eat the food in his bowl so fast he vomits….but he’s also vomited when his tummy gets completely empty as well. This all seems like how it was back when he initially was diagnosed with acro/diabetes. He’s also drinking a lot and peeing a lot again. He’s not due for labs until March. So I don’t know what’s up with him. I’ve still been trying to find the best dose for him and it seems like that’s 5 units from what I’ve tried. He gets glucose toxicity quickly and it’s hard to break that so I try to keep him at a good dose, which means testing him a lot. If he does get toxicity, he becomes severely constipated with makes things even worse.
Because of his diving and bouncing it makes it very difficult for me to control that with feeding times. I kept thinking things would flatten out with his numbers but I just can’t seem to help get him there, if that’s possible. Maybe not with him.
He is just a full time job all by himself and some days I feel so burned out from everything. Life goes on as usual and I just juggle things around to accommodate everyone and everything else that goes on, but it’s a lot. It’s just ALOT. The clinic where I retired from just before Max was diagnosed, has asked me twice to come back to work part time or even prn, but as it is with Max, I don’t see how I could even if I wanted to.
I really don’t think the SRT he had is causing anything drastic to happen lately and honestly don’t know if it will now. I always go back to wondering if I’m doing something wrong too. Anyway, just venting. It will be alright I guess. I’m happy with his nadirs right now. Just wish I could do a better job of stopping the diving then bouncing, and getting him to a flat cycle. I have a closet full of different % carb foods that I use. I pull out the 9% for example if I see he’s bouncing clearing from the previous cycle. I am doing all of the tricks I’ve learned from you guys along the way, so it’s just the best I can do.

Good to see a post from you, I was wondering about you two. :bighug:

His nadirs are creeping down, I suspect he will be asking for a reduction soon. Maybe he can sense the lower numbers coming and is wanting to stock up on his food to prevent that. I've seen some people say that there can seems to sense an active cycle coming. And for what it's worth, week 68 past her SRT, Neko earned another reduction. I've also seen another SRT kitty go OTJ after that point in the process. A great result though, is to get him on a relatively small dose, and flatten out to become more predictable. Hear that Max!

By the way, I'm going to disagree with your SS comments on 1/12 about the glucose toxicity. It takes days of higher numbers for GC to develop, not a couple cycles.

Max does seem to like to dive a lot between +3 and +4. I'd make sure he has some extra snacks around +3 on a regular basis. He also seems to be doing fairly short number of cycles for bounces now, also a good sign on the road to flatter cycles.

Thanks Wendy, that gives me a little hope. I needed it today. I’ve just been in my head lately, thinking too much. Found out my son and his family are moving to New Hampshire and it’s got me kind of bummed out. Probably not fair to Max, but I depend on him a lot to get me over tough things. He’s such a good kitty. Not fair for all he has going on with him, so I do my best. Thank you.:)

Thought he’d bounce all night by that +2, but I think he changed his mind. I usually get a +3, but fell asleep. Glad I woke up. Gave him a LC bedtime snack.
