2/3 Luci AMPS 217 - Vet Visit - update/report

Well, without too much fanfare, Luci is going to the vet this morning at 7:30 for another x-ray evaluation of her broken foot - if it's healed, the cast can come off - I'm trying not to get my hopes up - I almost wasn't even going to say anything...but it is what it is...fingers and paws crossed that she's healed by now - but at least I'm ready to accept it if it's not - and we'll just give her the time she needs.

The last time was about a month ago and the vet said that her healing is slowed most likely due to her diabetes...so if it takes longer, it takes longer. She's been in that cast for three months now - when it was first put on the vet said 6-8 weeks..so we're really only 4 weeks later than the initial estimate.

I am feeling a bit better but I still get tired easily and by night time I'm utterly exhausted...guess it's just part of the healing process. DH is struggling - night sweats and an awful cough - hope the meds kick in soon for him! If he's still not getting any better by mid-week, he'll be seeing the doctor again.

Back to work today -with of course in/out for Miss Luci...

I'm trying not to wring my hands and worry about these things - just have to try to roll with the punches...but it's challenging isn't it...fretting and worrying doesn't do any good at all!

Take care everyone and enjoy your day! Sending prayers to @Jill & Scooter.

Best of luck at the vet Sue, I hope Luci's foot is healed and her cast can come off. Sending a ton more healing vines for you and your DH.
It's been a rough couple of weeks, I hope things start looking up soon. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

More healing vines sent to your place in Florida. Sue, keep drinking lots of water or similar - it might really help that low energy level . . . and time will help.
Good luck with Luci - hope the xrays look good. Lots of paws at my house to cross for you:cat::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh my - if worrying did any good, I'd be something real special;)

By now I'd be asking a LOT of questions & letting the vet know I want the cast off now!

You are a lot more patient than I could ever be! :arghh:

Hope You & DH feel better very soon!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope Luci has the cast removed. I hope DH is feeling better also. I worry and stress alot too. My weekends I try to get caught up on my sleep. But there is always something that needs to be done!

Update: The cast will remain on for another three weeks...'sigh'.....

He said she's making progress but it's slow - and we'll need to re-evaluate in three weeks. He also said here are the other options:
1) She can undergo the plating procedure - where they would re-break the toe and set it using a plate and screws. OR
2) Surgically remove the toe entirely...

My response was, I'm a patient person and do not want to put her through any more trauma unless absolutely necessary. Can you imagine the pain involved in either of those two surgical interventions? She's closer to healing than she was before and he feels the diabetes is definitely delaying healing - however she IS healing - it's just incredibly slow...so three weeks is nothing - at least we're not dealing with an infection or an open wound - which as you can imagine both would be involved if we were to undergo a surgical intervention - the ultimate risk there is that the wound would be slow in healing or not heal at all and then ultimately she may have to have the entire foot amputated...

I'm opting to wait this one out - nasty cast and all - I'll just have to be more diligent on cleaning that LB - although I can't be in there when she does a fresh poo..she needs to work a little harder at her digging and get those things covered up a bit better - for the most part she manages to do pretty well...all things considered...I guess the other morning it just got a little messy for her - poor thing (as stinky as it all was)...

She and I are both exhausted - it's going to be an early night around here....for some reason all this vet business is tiring!

Thank you for all your well wishes - have a great evening everyone!

Yes, going to the vet always feels like a full day. And yes, if she's slow to heal, she'd probably be slow to heal from those other options.

You snuggle up to your momma, Ms. Luci, and purr her to sleep. Your purrs are healing for both of you! And do try to watch your step.

No he didn't mention laser treatments - he recommended waiting - she's healing...it's just slow.

Well that's a bummer ... hope the next three weeks give Luci all the extra time she needs to heal up and get that cast off. Sending some extra healing vines to give her a little extra boost.

What a disappointment, I think I would have chosen the extra three weeks as well, instead of re-breaking her poor toe. I am glad to hear that its healing even if it is slowly :)

I’m so sorry Luci didn’t get her cast off! I do think you made the right decision to just give it more time. I hope it will come off at the next check up.

Thank you for the prayers!
