Hey Gill, 2 things: I like that you changed your member name to Gill and George

meant to tell you that yesterday. And, with all the extra fuds that BFG and BOB got yesterday, do you reduce his rations a bit the next day? It looks like Bubs got an extra can and 1/4 of FF yesterday with his cycles. Today, so far, I skipped the 9Am and only gave him a snack at +6.25. Thinking I should skip the +9 snack too. Can't have him ballooning back to 25 pounds when he so appropriately got the name
Big
Old
Bubba. How are you dealing with it?
I have been less generous with his rations today. Also yesterday he didn't get his normal food in the am cycle, as I felt he had had enough, and he wasn't begging, he was pretty peckish this morning though and this afternoon as well, he didn't finish his lunchtime ration, a new flavour chicken and liver

so by afternoon snack he was quite insistent he wanted more so I ignored him.
I have stuck to giving him his low fat foods today as well which are lower in Cal.
I have some higher LC also that I give him sometimes to try and keep him up if he is dropping quickly but still in blue say,and that seems to have been able to slow him down, early on it was suggested that he could perhaps do with higher carb LC to try and slow his dives, he usually gets 1.5-2%, sometimes I use 5 to 6% to try and slow him(problem with those is that they are higher in Cal.
His regular food should have him loosing weight, but he has been stable of late 7.4 kg(16 llbs) But like you I am very conscious that I don't want him ballooning, he got up to 9.2kg 20llb after a friend looked after him for 3 months whilst DM was very ill and I was looking after her, he did a very good job of convincing her that he was starving

That was 3 years ago, we had him on Rx diet

() which saw him loose the grand total of about 3/4llb and he was starving all the time. Prior to his diabetes dx he lost a further pound or so.
He's kept the weight off but his body condition has improved, he's more muscular now, he has always been a strong cat, but we saw a fair bit of muscle wastage prior to his dx, that and his excessive peeing was what started the alarm bells ringing.
His ideal weight is 6.75kg (14lb), if I could get him to loose one more pound I would be happier but he can groom himself now so I don't have to give him mini baths because his bum area has got all stinky, he's much happier with that situation, and his generally more agile an mobile. So I am not stressing about that at the moment.
BFG's problem is that he is very sedentary, he moves from bed to feed area, feed area to LB, LB to window spot, window spot to lap, lap to feed area you get the picture... he is a cuddle bum though and I love him for it

So at least with the feeding every 15min yesterday he got a bit more exersise walking between feed spot and sleep spot (LOL).
It's tricky though because the food is part of the equation with regulating their BG so we can't reduce too much otherwise they may drop lower than we expect, I guess I have been shaving his portions today if I were to describe it anyway. I've thrown away some of the 3oz( the feral farm cats get his left overs) tin that made up his snack portions for his am cycle, it's not very scientific I'm afraid.
I think that as long as we are mindful of it, as they spend more time in normal numbers and become better regulated it will be easier to control their calorie intake, and therefore their weight. At the moment they are just at that phase where, thankfully, their insulin requirement is reducing, which of course means there will be times when we have to steer with extra food.
(sorry that's rather long winded)
