Good Morning LL

After yesterday's flat pink all day, I am a bit nervous about this beautiful blue amps. I don't have such a good track record of avoiding the big drops.

Checkers is notorious for dropping a hundred points in an hour.

If anyone cares to offer advice on how to keep him from losing momentum this morning, I'd be very grateful.

Monring Barb - oh wow on that amps! That is kinda cool. Ok Checks.... no drops allowed this morning, maybe a dip into the greens, but no diving... If it were me, considering checkers record, I'd test at +1,+2, see where he is headed, and have the higher carb foods ready. Good luck and I hope your boy behaves himself.

Thanks Michelle. He did dip. Gave a little gravy food at +1. He was happy for the extra good fud.

He seems to be in back pain today. He wasn't active yesterday, but I thought it was because of the high numbers.
Now I'm wondering if pain was making the bg so high.
I do have bupe, so am watching him closely to see if I should dose.

We're not having such a good day already. The 1/2 teas gravy food, wasn't enough to keep him safe, it seems

Gave another /2 teas. Will recheck in 15 min.
Had to give bupe. He is reacting to that also. I don't know if it affects bg.

Bupe shouldn't effect numbers. Pain can raise numbers so the bupe may alleviate the pain and numbers may come down.

If you're having to really work to get Checker's numbers up, you could consider shaving his dose given how early in the cycle this drop is. However, I generally don't do this and Gabby is also notorious for early drops. You might want to go back and look at the info that we've provided in Patty/Champ and Angela/Blackie's condos about using food to manipulate the cycle.

I see you got your SS to work without crashing your computer!

Thanks Sienne. I've been using food to control drops. Something was different about yesterday. He was flat pink all day. I think the pain was starting. He had been way too active and playful this week, maybe he overdid it.
Gave little HC twice today to try to keep him surfing. So far, so good.

His nadir is always early. He drops at around +3 to 4, so I've been giving carbs early.
I don't have his journal in front of me, so cant remember details

And the SS is just as much trouble now as it ever was. I just have to walk away and let it load for however long it takes. Not everyone could see the Excel.

I'm with you in spirit, Barb!!! I'm glad you got him to surf. These darn cats and their love for diving!!! I woke up this morning to Champ being 50!! And he was at 191 when I went to bed!!

I hope by now Checkers has had a good surf. And I hope the bupe helped his back. Poor boy needs to be careful.

this makes me wonder if it's the back pain that led him back to the insulin
(you mentioned that when he first came back on...
but my lil pea brain didn't quite grasp the significance)

Chex...Binks is on the way to give you an ever so gentle massage...
and Barb...he's happy to do the same for hoomins :-D

Today started off well. I think I probably caused spiking when he asked for food at +5.

Because he's so thin, and doesn't really love to eat, I won't refuse when he asks. If it drives up numbers, so be it.
This morning he was having trouble getting down to a lying down position, indicating pain. A little while later, I found him lying on the bathroom floor, waiting for me to get him to the sink. He didn't get up, when I came into the room.
Normally he would jump from the hamper to the sink, or If I've placed them there, he'd run up the steps that were made for him to get on the sink.
He couldn't do it! I gave him the bupe at 9:10, and ten minutes later, he was already affected by it.
His pupils were dilated, and he sat staring at his water fountain, instead of splashing in it.

I spoke to his vet, and went and got another couple of syringes of bupe, to have on hand.

He slept for a few hours, nothing unusual.
Then woke feeling like a new kid. Now I don't know how to make him not so frisky, so he doesn't hurt again.
I believe he hurt himself because he was so active and playful this week.

Oh yeah, we're on the bungee cord again. +11 was 306.

Celi, I'm fine, thanks for asking, but I'll take that kitten massage. :-D

Barb:

Maybe ask your vet if you can give him a maintenance dose of bupe. Our Gussie has severe arthritis and we give him a maintenance dose bid. We can up it if we need to but he does really well on it and it doesn't keep him spaced out like
a high dose once or twice might.

The other pain meds that work well for arthritis pain are gabapentin and amantadine in combo.

One other thing I would suggest on the numbers is that when Gracie gives me a low PS that I think might be dropping fast, I get a +.5. Yes it's an extra pokey but it has really helped in some cases because I could up her %carbs
right then instead of waiting even for the +1.

You're doing a great job, Barb. I hope Checks feels better and will flatten out a bit. And yes...lost of good info on those condos about food. I also put a lengthy diatribe :lol: :lol: on Randa/Mookie's condo a few days ago and I
think she's trying the food mgmt.

Oh good grief. Okay, so a +1 raise, is expected/normal. I'm certainly not going to carb him at this....he is eating lc right now.
Knowing him, he could plummet by +2. What's a bean to do? :YMSIGH:

Marje, I intend to talk to Dr Dave about a maintenance dose of something. We've ruled out tramadol...very bad reaction.
Today was just a courtesy phone conversation, so I didn't want to get into it.

Hi barb - wow, quite the day. You did well with him this morning. and now we bounce. I hear you on the +1 tonight - Mannie will do that to me too - what IS a bean to do....

I hope Checks is feeling better, less pain. It almost sounds like he did over do it, but I too wouldn't have a clue on how to teach act to play safe, easy, and not over do it. Well, I hope he feels better now - sounds like he does. Poor guy!

I too would like that kitty massage. What a cute photo!
