Re: 2/28 Zener PMPS 202
We gave a little sliver of appy stimulant cypro at +10.5 and at PMPS he was ready to eat. We keep him on maintenance anti-nausea meds, ondansetron and also cerenia tablets (3x/wk) so we can use appy stimulant as needed without worrying about inducing appetite in a nauseated cat (thank you Karrie for our education). We expected his numbers to bounce up after the jump to the yellow floor at mid-cycle but he just stayed surfing the low yellows the rest of the cycle. It's always a surprise.
@Ann & Maggie - Zener is a pretty quiet eater and I sleep very soundly, so I miss the whole thing.
@Amy & TrixieCat - always a little  from the beans with those green pre-shots. Fortunately he ate enough this morning to keep from diving, and perhaps with a little bounce thrown in for good measure.
@Melissa & Mr T - it was up from then on, then a flat low yellow surf into PMPS.
@Sienne - Zener didn't hang in the lagoon for long this morning. Time will tell if he gets back there again tonight.
@Michelle & Mannie - we must have jinxed the morning appy. Drat! He got on his surf board on the yellow floor, beats the heck out of those other colors that shall not be named.
@Lisa & Do Lou - thanks for stopping in, we are wishing Do Lou the happiest of birthdays, what a story!
@Roni - we are so honored to have you stop in and check on the mighty Z. We sure miss our buddy Moonie, and know all is well at the bridge now that Moonie is there to get things sorted out. Thanks for the healing vines. This cold is a nasty hanger-on.
@Ann & Tess - thanks for the info on Orbax. :YMHUG: I emailed our vet about it. She said they don't use it regularly, only in cases of UTI/kidney infections that are hard to treat. She is perfectly willing to have some on hand for us to use with Zener if we prefer. Normally she uses clindamycin for pre-dental ABs because of its specificity for mouth bacteria, but she also is well aware of Zener's appy issues. We'll talk more about it Tuesday after she has a look at his mouth for the possible dental.
@Ann & Maggie - thanks for the info on Orbax too! The appy stimulant is working well and he is eating enough so far tonight. Appy issues are so stressful. :?
@carla - this is the most incredible place to find out about all the possible options for treatment, we are so grateful! Z is following your instructions to not go too high.
Thanks everyone for chiming in on dental ABs and appy effects. We are happy to read other suggestions too!
We have an appointment with our vet on Tuesday to take a look and see if it's time. And if so, make a plan to accommodate all his conditions. Our vet uses ABs pre-dental but does not regular use any post-dental unless complications. That's good news for Zener's appy issues. We'll keep everyone posted on the visit next week. If a dental is necessary, we plan to schedule it during spring break week, when we are off from work and be here during the day.
Beans are worn out from going back to work with the last dregs of the cold still hanging on. Thanks for all the healing vines for the beans!
Wishing all in LL a drama-free Fursday evening.
