She's having a good day so far. I just need to try and keep her from going under 50 - I'd still like a little longer with the 0.1u dose before trying her without!
 
I'm a little confused by her numbers the last few days. Some days her nadir seems to hit around +11 or +12, so her pre-shot numbers are low but then she's higher where I'd expect her nadir to be mid-cycle. Is it possible for her nadir to move that much from one cycle to the next? Other days, her +4 numbers (which always seem to be around the point she'll drop low if she's going to) are the lowest. Or is it just that the insulin dose is so small now that I'm seeing her food intake affect her number more than it was with more insulin on board?
 
Rosa's looking phenomenal! I usually refrain from dosing advise, but I don't think I'd necessarily try to prevent her from a reduction. As fast as she's gone down in dosing, she may just simply decide she doesn't even want that tiny extra drop of insulin.:D:cool: Those higher numbers mid-cycle could just be her body's normal fluctuations in insulin production. Or, it's possible you might be seeing some inverse cycles. Basically inverse cycles are when the curve is inverted or upside down when you have your highest numbers when you'd expect the lowest. It can indicate that the exogenous insulin that's going in is provoking a little bit of a counterregulatory response - or a bump up in the glucose, without necessarily seeing a super low number before hand to trigger a bounce. Sometimes, that can be a clue that a kitty is looking for a reduction. This pattern is really only relevant for kittiers like Rosa that are on teensy-weensy doses of insulin. My understanding is that generally, inverse cycles alone, are not in and of themselves a reason to reduce, but they can be a clue to watch for. Hopefully some more experienced eyes will be along to see if they also spot a couple inverted cycles on this dose. :)

Regardless, Rosa's looking phenomenal! Her SS is a prime example of a kitty that starts in blacks, and then never looks back! :D
 
Thank you both - I agree Serryn, she might just be being a cat. She had done the same thing once or twice before but this time it's starting to look like a pattern which seemed a bit weird.

I wasn't aware of inverse cycles Jen - but it is possible that that's what's happening with her. And if that means that she really is ready to try an OTJ trial, then maybe I should just wait it out and see if she does drop below 50 instead of trying to keep her above. I was thinking the higher numbers were because she wasn't quite ready to try having no insulin support just yet, but I can see how it's possible that it might actually be the exact opposite. I can see that the cycle alone wouldn't be a reason to reduce, but it might be that she's going to throw an under 50 number sometime in the next few days if that's what's happening with her. I'm going to try and get numbers at a couple of different times in her cycle tomorrow as I'll be home all day - I was going to try and get a +2 this morning, but in the end I just didn't make it because I was so tired. Hopefully now I've caught up on some sleep I'll be able to grab those missing times tomorrow and see if she is dipping that bit lower and I'm just not catching it.

I'd never have believed when she was diagnosed that she could have such a good response to treatment and go from being 600+ all the time to being in good numbers in the space of just a few weeks. And yes, not only is her SS looking great, but so is Rosa herself which is just as important! :D :D

I'd agree, if you can, to try to get a +2 or +3 early in the cycle. For whatever reason, with Eddie at least, it seems like when he's on the verge of a reduction these days when he's a flat green cat, the drops below 50 tend to come early in the cycle.
 
I did wonder if she'd been just below 50 around +3 this morning and I missed it with getting that 59 at +4. I'm going to change my alarm for tomorrow and try and get that missing number - it's one we've missed all week so far so I think it's important that I get it tomorrow to fill in the 'blank' time in her SS. And she'd had 3 days in a row before this morning where her +4 was higher than her AMPS or her +1 which does make me wonder what's happening during that 'missing' time.
