Yesterday's BGs:

AMPS - 485, gave 0.10 units Lantus (old vial)
+4 - 439
+6 - 410
PMPS - 266, gave 0.10 units Lantus (new pen)
+2 - 165
+3 - 171
+7 - 332

This morning's AMPS was 270 and I gave another 0.10 units Lantus from the new pen. Despite the limping episode that's pretty darned good :-D Cini hasn't been that low in the morning for a week!

Just to recap for those who may not have read the previous condo -- Cini Mini started limping last night at PMPS +2. He's been hobbling around on 3 legs this morning and when he makes a right turn or for whatever reason moves the wrong way he lets out a yelp/growl and hisses. (When my knee goes out, I do the same thing  )

I've only seen him go to the LB the one time last night and he urinated then. He could have gone while I was sleeping but with 2 other cats in the house, it's hard to tell.

His appetite is voracious this morning! He cleaned his bowl, which he never does. I noticed last night at PMPS+6 he did the same thing.

He made it all the way down two flights of stairs this morning but I carried him back up and now I have him shut in my bedroom. I don't think he should do any mountain climbing for today till I hear from the Vet. Currently he crawled under my bed and is resting under there.

I called the Vet's office and the receptionist said she would call the Vet for me (today's her day off) and ask her to call me back.

*sigh* Cini Mini, it's like whack a mole with you and all your ailments. Get one thing under control and something else pops up. But then, if it wasn't life wouldn't be as interesting.

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-AMPS 270 and WCR, still limping

Hi guys .. so sorry to hear cini mini is limping  I hope it is nothing serious .. at least it's a sunny yellow to get the day started! I hope you hear back from your vet soon .. have a great day!

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-AMPS 270 and WCR, still limping

Aww poor Cini....I hope it's a minor thing. I think temporarily confining him is a good idea....silly boy, going mountain climbing! I hope the vet calls you back soon, Cathy.

Not a bad AMPS....yellow beats red!

Sounds just like my Squishy, and now Leroy

Hope Cini Mini's leg feel better soon :YMHUG:

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-AMPS 270 and WCR, still limping

Could he have jumped from someplace high? One of my cats jumped from the sink to the tub enclosure and down into the tub. When he tried to get out, he hurt his leg. He was fine in 24hrs. In fact my vet had said unless it's obviously broken, they suggest waiting 24hrs. to see if it gets better.

Hope he feels better soon!

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-AMPS 270,+2/279 and WCR, still limping

Hi Carolyn,

I don't seem to remember any jumping or wrestling episodes yesterday before this happened. It's like he got up from a nap yesterday evening and was all kinked up and sore.

He's sleeping under my bed right now. Guess he feels safe and out of the way there.

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-AMPS 270,+2/279 and WCR, still limping

No call back from the Vet yet.

Cini's still sleeping under the bed and hasn't been to the LB either. I tried placing him in the LB but he just turned around growled several times and tried to get out.

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-AMPS 270,+2/279,+4/185,+6/207 - Vet Apt i

Just got a call back from the receptionist at the Vet clinic. My Vet said I should bring Cini in right away and have another Vet look at him. The first open appointment isn't till 4pm (about 2 hours from now).

He's still under the bed sleeping, every time I feed him he is eating really good but still no LB action. Eventually what goes in has to come out nailbite_smile I've been placing him in front of and sometimes in the LB but Cini just wants to get away from it and go back under the bed.

Good vetty visit vines being sent your way. Hope they figure it out. Hugs Cathy!

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-AMPS 270,+2/279,+4/185,+6/207 - Vet Apt i

That is pretty normal behavior for a cat in duress.

I would take extra towels etc. for the carrier with you to the vet just in case there is an accident.

Hope the vet can determine what's wrong with the leg.

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-+2/279,+4/185,+6/207,+9/278 - Back from V

Back from the Vet.

No obvious fractures or breaks upon manual exam. The Vet took Cini in the back and said he manipulated his leg "every which way" he could and no howling or screeching from Cini. The Vet did say he could feel some tenseness in Cini's back and one spot where Cini jerked away, but nothing obvious.

The Vet thinks Cini just "threw his back out getting up from a reclining position" and gave him a Metacam injection which he said should help with any pain or stiffness for the next 24 to 48 hours.

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-+2/279,+4/185,+6/207,+9/278 - Back from V

Cathy --

For future reference, please ask your vet to put in very large letters across Cini's chart, "No METACAM." Metacam (meloxicam) has a black box warning issued by the FDA for it's use in cats. It has been associated with acute renal failure. You vet should know about this -- it was issued in October of 2010. Short of pulling a drug off the market, this is as strong a warning as the FDA gives. At the very minimum, the vet should have discussed the pros and cons of Metacam with you before administering the pain med.

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-+2/279,+4/185,+6/207,+9/278 - Back from V

Hey Sienne,

Thanks for that information. I'll be sure to do that. That link does say it can be used as a one time option, so I guess this was Cini's one time.

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-+2/279,+4/185,+6/207,+9/278 -He's Walking

I just came upstairs to check on Cini and he's walking around ! WOOT! flip_cat dancing_cat cat_pet_icon haha_smiley party_cat

Still a little shakey on the legs but walking none the less!

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-+2/279,+4/185,+6/207,+9/278 -He's Walking

That's great news but do what you can to discourage him from jumping, etc. for a few more days. The pain med may make him feel better but the strain or sprain is still there.

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-+2/279,+4/185,+6/207,+9/278 -He's Walking

hope he's doing better tonight!

loved your comment about "whack a mole" - i know exactly what you mean. it's always something with our little ones!

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-PMPS 309 - He Peed!

OK, never thought I would be so excited to announce that Cini peed, but he did!

Thank you to everyone who sent healing thoughts and good wishes. I think you guys are the best!

Re: 2/28-Cini Mini-PMPS 309 - He Peed!

I'm so glad to hear that Cini is better and he peed. I hope he does not overdo it because nthe pain is alleviated right now.

Glad Sienne told you about the meta am. I am amazed that vets still give it with the black box warning.

Hope he continues to feel better.

Cini is resting in my bedroom so he doesn't wander around up and down the stairs. He's sitting out in the middle of the floor and not under my bed.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to post earlier today to offer my support, too, Cathy. I'm glad Cini is feeling better and is able to rest. Sleep well tonight.
