GM all - it's about time I show up here and let you know how he's doing!
Sooty's still doing very well, he is fit and well and doing his best to eat us out of house and home.. although we are, still, having the devil of a time trying to get over his insulin resistance. The Acromegaly battle goes on...! He has been in prety solid yellows for ever (as all of you who know Sooty from before can attest, he has some of the flattest yellow numbers in history...!!)
We are back at very high doses of Levemir ('CAT'ION: anyone seeing our SS for the first time, please read with caution!! Acromegaly cats like Sooty are way off the charts as to insulin vs. regular DM cats and so: "do not try this at home"...!)
During the last week or so, we have also added some 'R' (Humulin-R), in an attempt to kick-start some response and to try and give the Levemir a bit of a helping hand (again, this is NOT something to copy, adding 'R' as a bolus is something that is only indicated for very high-dose cats!). There has been some response and so we're somewhat encouraged. One upside for R is that you don't have to wait a couple of days to see the effect of it - if it's going to work, it does so right away - although the downside can be that it clouds the Levemir dosing decisions quite a bit. Anyhow the SS tells the tale... it's still one of "onwards and upwards"..!
So there we go, all is well, really, in Sootyland, we are just SO glad to have Sooty still around - and we're still optimistic that one day, we'll see some blue numbers, maybe some time during 2011... !!!
