Yesterday's Condo:
http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=89781

In case someone didn't get a chance to read vet report, here's a copy and paste of that from yesterday's condo:

OMG...the vet appointment was unbelievable! I got there and here my appointment was yesterday. The receptionist asked if I would like to see a different vet and I said ok. When I got into the room, I had Gobby's test equipment and insulin with me because his shot was due at 4 p.m. (and it was almost 4 p.m.) When the vet walked into the room I told him that I would get Gobby's BG & give him his shot. Of course, Gobby just laid there and let me test him (140) and shoot him. I handed him the folder with Gobby's SS, TRP & Roomp/Rand literature, abstracts--he literally lit up like a christmas tree and got soooo excited!!! I swear he almost hit his head on the ceiling! He said he just loves Kristen Roomp and goes to her lectures whenever he can; that she's so educated, a great speaker and pretty to boot. Then he mentioned Dr. Pierson and that he is enthralled with her website and research! He was overly impressed with what I gave him and asked if he could please make a copy of everything? I said, oh that's for your file. He then asked if I minded waiting while he went to get his tech (who has a cat on Lantus). She wanted to know about the pens, how long Gobby was on insulin, dosing etc. I wrote down FDMB website and where to get Lantus pen coupons (she said she is spending a fortune on vials). The vet told me that in his opinion (though he doesn't want to "jinx Gobby") there is a very good chance Gobby may go into remission because of the Lantus TRP. He said that he is fascinated with the study and specialty of Feline Diabetes. He even jokingly suggested that I go in and educate all the other vets & techs with what I know and show them how easy it is for caregivers to home test, and to speak with them about being proactive in the management of Gobby's FD. Needless to say, I was absolutely floored. As for the exam; Gobbles weight was 12.87. He thoroughly examined Gobby's teeth and said he has an absolutely healthy mouth & teeth and does not dental. He drew blood and urine; senior panels. He said his ears are not infected but if they continue to bother them, to flush (I have the vet ear flush already at home). He did notice the 2/24 PM low BG readings, asked me questions about it and thought I handled the situation beautifully. On my way out, I told him that if he gets any FD newbies and they need someone to talk to and/or shown how to HT, I would be more than happy to help. He thanked me profusely and apologized for taking up so much of my time!!! WOW...I still cannot believe it (Added: he said he wouldn't do a fructo test because in my case, with all the data, that test would be a big waste of money).

Re: 2/27 Gobbles AMPS 414

Cool. That's a great vetty bean report. Good Job! :thumbup

I hope Gobbles and J.D. both, come down nice and easy, today.

Re: 2/27 Gobbles AMPS 414

Morning Kat, thank you for copying and pasting that glowing Vetty report, as I missed it yesterday. I think it was meant to be that you missed your regular appt, and got this Vet. You sure have a keeper with this Vet. That's great about Gobbles's teeth, too. Have a great day

Re: 2/27 Gobbles AMPS 414

I am excited about the vet. I don't know how proper it would be but I would like to change vets. The office where I take Gobby has 6 vets. The vet I was seeing is okay; I actually had an appointment with him on Monday but thought it was Tuesday. The reason I seen this other vet was because my vet isn't in on Tuesdays. I don't know if it would be a big deal to request a change of vets since they are in the same office? What approach would you use?

Yes I agree out kits need to get the heck down out of the tree, or I'm going up after them!!!

Re: 2/27 Gobbles AMPS 414

Hi Kat, I'm in the exact same situation with Vets, and not sure either how to handle it. The last time I took Maggie in to see the Vet, I had a different one and now prefer him, as he's more proactive and up on things as is your new Vet. I'll be watching your condo to see how to handle such a situation. I think if you just kept making the appts. with this Vet, nothing needs to be said insofar as changing Vets.

Hi & good morning. Yes I see we are in the same boat. I like your idea about making appts. with the "other vet". When he (hopefully "other vet" not "regular vet") calls me with blood/urine results I'm just going to flat out ask him (the "new vet"). How's Maggie feeling today? Gobby had beautiful numbers last night then bounced up to 414 this morning (4 a.m.). He's sleeping right now next to the couch. I can tell his BG is still up just by the way he's acting. I did get him to eat a total of 3/4 can of FF since 4 a.m. When he's high and sleepy, I let him be. Wendy ("Tiggy") told me that she asked her vet what if may feel like when their sugar is high and the vet told her maybe something similar to how a hangover feels...

I meant to quote you, Dyana, on this. I have a question: when Gobby's sugar is high I can tell by his lack of appetite and somewhat lethargic demeanor (tired, deep sleeping, precious little snoring). Is JD the same way when his sugar is high? When Gobby's in the mid 350's, he's fine, but when he gets close to 400-600, he sleeps and doesn't eat much...

Re: 2/27 Gobbles AMPS 414

Hi Kat, I just saw your post on changing Vets in the same Clinic. That's an excellent idea is to just ask the new Vet when he calls with the Lab results, if he could continue taking on Gobbles. They probably don't mind or think too much of it, as we do worrying about it.

Re: 2/27 Gobbles AMPS 414

Hi guys .. wow, what an awesome vet report! We don't see very many of those around here so it is always encouraging when we do .. Now we just need gobbles to bring this mornings number back down .. way down gobbles! Have a great day guys!

Re: 2/27 Gobbles AMPS 414

I ended up changing vets within the same clinic, too. My original vet was very good and very thorough, but also too cold and clinical. My current vet is fabulous...very knowledgeable AND has great bedside manner, which makes all the difference in the world for a sensitive cat caretaker like me. When I call for appointments, I just specifically ask for the vet I prefer, and if she's not available, I wait until she is (unless, of course, it's an emergency). I just did it quietly, without bringing it up specifically. I don't know if they really noticed or not...

I hope Gobby eases down for you today!!

Kat, you and Gobbles are certainly blessed! What I would give for a vet like that!? Just about anything.

I'm still hoping to find a vet around here that will work with a proactive furbaby caregiver. :-D

No. J.D. seems to act fine and normal when high. We went for a walk last night and he was like 500. J.D. seems to not want to eat when in a certain blue range. And I have woken him up on more than one occasion to a 30 number.
So ECID.
