Woke me 1.5hr before AMPS wanting food. Gave him about 1oz low carb pate. Waited a little past normal AMPS to test/shoot. When number was so high, decided to give a little more, but not up to 1.0, since I won't be home until afternoon. I'll try for a +2 reading. Bouncy, Bouncy!!

You are really getting this Kathleen, looking back at his ss and deciding on a dose. Hurray! If you won't be home, I think a fat .8 is excellent. The next time you will be around, I'd try one unit on those pinks. Yesterday looked good, especially the pm cycle. It may be that the low carb starts to bring him down a little also.

Does he get small meals during the day? A timed feeder is good for this. Just divide his regular intake into 3/4 portions and let him eat several times during the day and some at night also. If you add the water, it stretches the food out also. Feeding several small meals supports his pancreas and will (maybe) let you sleep at night. If you get a feeder like the PetSafe 5, you can set it so it goes to an empty slot 2 hours before his test.

Thanks for the encouragement!! Actually, I left him a frozen food Popsicle yesterday when I left for work ( new part time job that's been more full time, lately ;-) He wasn't so ravenous when I got in around 4:30pm as he had been the day before. But I gave him another snack when I tested him then. And he got another snack around 10pm with his test. These snacks are "fat" teaspoon sizes of his regular low-carb food.

I may have to wait on one of those feeders until I make some money - trying to save for needed home repairs. The Popsicles may have to do for a while. How do the feeders work with two cats? Since they like to sleep separately, maybe it would work. I don't dare get two - Freddie would figure that out In a NY minute and eat both!!

Hope his +2 looks better. Keep those suggestions coming!!! Thanks.

Re: 2/27 FRED AMPS:367(0.82);+2:38

There's a lot of people that leave out frozen kitty pops, seems to help stabilize the cycle some when they are doing a bit of bouncing. You know those high preshots and low nadirs. Seems like smaller, more often meals levels them off some.

You're doing really well with Fred, hang in there! :thumbup

Well, the "at 8" brought him down -- or maybe it was the popcicle or the late afternoon snack...either way, I'm glad to be back in familiar territory.

That said, I don't want to chance a too-low slide, so I think I'll stick with .8 tonight and see where he is in a couple of hours.

thanks!
