Hi Venita, this morning was 12 hours after I shot him last night. I did shoot him at +11.5 last night to try and get closer to his normal schedule since I ended up waking up late yesterday morning and he was an hour late for his shot. I think tonight I will test and shoot at +11.75 (6:15pm) and then in the morning I will be able to get him back on his 6 to 6 schedule. Hope you have a great day!

Thank you Lisa. He currently has his big ol' butt in my lap pretending like he's sleeping with his head on my hand as I type and tail flickering so I know he's not really sleeping. Ooh, he must know I'm talking about him because he just looked up at me with that little bit of tongue sticking out of his mouth. He's such a sweetie. I hope you all are having a beautiful sunny day like we are here. :razz:

Hi all, I have a question about at what point should I be giving Choco HC's. With his numbers today +2 59, +3 54, +4 54 I felt like he was steady and didn't need any help but I want to make for sure that I wasn't hurting him. I always give him HC if he falls below 50 but I need to know if there is a certain point where I should be giving it to him. I don't want to get in the way of his healing process so any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

let me just say here...i think you are doing a WONDERFUL job with Choco.

Binksy is just responding differently to the carbs than before...and his next test could be surfing or too high..i hardly know anymore!

Maria, if he is surfing in the 50s with LC food, that's fine! If he falls below 50, then I would get out the HC, below 40 I would add a little karo...I think that's what you have been doing, right? You are doing great!

Do you have Sienne's post on dealing with low numbers handy? It explains it very well. The link is in my signature.

(Please don't go by how I handle Tinkles' numbers, I intervene at higher numbers with him to prevent bouncing..ECID)

according to choco's ss, he's only risen 9 points since his low carb snack an hour ago.
that's not bad at all!

if he rises much more, you may decide to do away with snacks later in the cycle. i found that to be true with alex. if i feed her after nadir, the food tends to put the brakes on whatever action is left on the insulin, but ECID. it's just a matter of figuring out what works best for choco.

he sure is looking good! :mrgreen:

Oh my gosh, this is all so confusing to me. So his nadir is his lowest point right? Choco's nadir seems to be between +3 and +4 with a few variances. If Choco maybe shouldn't eat after his nadir then he will not get to eat past late morning. I was just concerned because his numbers have not been getting this high this early and I was wondering what may be causing this. I'm glad he is still looking good but I feel like something might be going on here. Thank you for answering Jill. :O)

maria, i only used alex as an example. choco may be fine with being fed after nadir. if you look at his ss, his numbers don't always go up after being fed past nadir. this could be an isolated incident. after all, we're dealing with cats! :lol:

however, if you begin to identify a pattern, you may want to adjust those late cycle snacks. just something to keep in the back of your mind...

just dropping by to mention that i overdid binksy's carbs today...shouldn't have added the HC...it bumped him too much...

It's a constant process to figure out what works for your cat and what doesn't. Choco is doing great, though.

Thanks Libby. If I could figure out exactly how everything is supposed to work and where his numbers should be at a certain point than I would feel a lot less stressed. I kinda feel like I'm in algebra class where I kinda get it but not really. :roll: Please somebody write a Lantus for Dummies book! :-D

Yes, you're exactly right but it would be nice to have a Dummy book to be able to study over and over again until I finally get it!!! It's just a thought. I get discouraged when I don't understand why things work the way they do so I always like to try and be well informed (especially when it comes to my child:).

As a companion to Lantus for Dummies, I think there should also be a children's illustrated book series on the adventures of our cats.... book 1: Lantus Land Kitties take Manhattan!

Choco looks great, as usual! I think if you are around to test, letting Choco surf the 50s is good as, especially given your tight work week schedule, you don't want to miss an earned decrease because you fed the cycle.

Hope you can get some sleep tonight!! I may be up too!!

Christie what do you mean by fed the cycle? I let him have his LC snack but that's all. Yes, you're right that I don't want to miss the chance at a dose decrease. :O)
