Sabrina's 2/25 Condo
Morning All! ~O) Last evening Sabrina's pm +2.75 348 & she had a quiet night, as far as I know  & slept under my bed. I got up @ 6:20, got her out from under the bed to test. I think she still wanted to sleep in some more I-) Her AMPS 231 @ 6:30 was 231, dosed her @ 6:45(20 min early) because I weanted to catch her before the bg started rising. It seems to me she climbs quickly between +11.5 & PS
Sabrina has a vet appointment this morning & I'm armed with "convert a vet", her ss, notes...etc. I hope to get her previous bloodwork, todays info & post later.....Like everyone advised I think she needs another .25 dose increase but kept her at 1.25U this morning pending vet's advice(I want to make sure there's no other underlying issues why her bg is the way it is) confused_cat We'll keep you posted & hopefully Sabrina will listen to me about surfing a bit lower today!!!! ;-) Everyone, have a wonderful, SAFE, day! Cindy & Sabrina cat_pet_icon PS-please scroll down thru my thread & please comment on the advice I got from the vet :?:

AMPS 231 (6:30am) 1.25U

Re: 2/26 Sabrina AMPS 231 *Vet Appt Today*Update Went Well

Good Afternoon Everyone! Sabrina passed with flying colors, vet got confused looking at her ss, though......she was looking for consistent bg & test times & took a while to figure this out  Suggestions from the vet......keep her on the same 1.25U dose for another week, don't free feed her just give 1.5oz am/pm snack a mid-cycle(1 tablespoon) & also again before bedtime. Don't test her as much, just do AM/PM BG so se doesn't get stressed out & repeat curve in about 10 days. She feels #'s all over the place because of food spikes & stress from being tested so much confused_cat . She wants me to continue Tumil-K 1/4 teas 2x's per day. Her physical was excellent...shiny coat, pancreas good, bladder good, clipped her nails

I think I have to simplify the ss for the vet & give her times in regards to testing, dosing etc. She did mention the "professional" curve with the Alpha Trak because she did not know how much the human meters differentiated with the animal meter, but she didn't push the point to do a curve in the office  Also, I didn't want t push my point too much about home testing, I think I would have gotten an attitude grr_red if I handed her the "convert a vet" info.....maybe next time ohmygod_smile

I do have to touch base with her after I do the next curve, probably end of next week, we'll see how it goes...........Comments & advice always greatly appreciated :thumbup I'm now trying to publish her bloodwork & todays lytes panel, but went stupid again... :? I'll get it published eventually

Thanks, Cindy & Sabrina dancing_cat dancing_cat cat_pet_icon

Hi Cindy

I think you've already held the dose too long and I'd take her up to 1.5u. I think numbers are all over the place because she needs more insulin. The longer she stays at high numbers, the more she will bounce when she does happen to drop into blue numbers because her liver isn't used to lower numbers. She can also develop insulin resistance if left at high numbers.

The spreadsheet is for you to manage Sabrina's diabetes. If your vet does not understand how to read it.....well, I would think she just needs to learn. I wouldn't simplify it. It makes no difference the actual time of day you are giving the shots and testing. In other words, it doesn't matter if you shoot at 8 am/8 pm or 12 am/12 pm.

I think you would do better to decide if you really want or need her to help you manage FD. I think her advice is counterproductive to Sabrina's needs. iMHO.

I'm with Marje. Your vet was smart enough to get thru vet school, it shouldn't be that hard for her to see the numbers and patterns.

After diagnosis, and getting that prescription for Lantus, I found FDMB, and only went back to the vet once to touch base...
gave her my ss link so she could see if she wanted to...
and then when I actually took my cat back to the vet, we were in remission which absolutely amazed my vet. She had never seen
any client do so much on their own.
The advice of the folks here, especially Marje and Sienne helped me get Shadow to remission.

I never allowed my vet to do a curve... did them all myself.

This is the best place you could be to learn and manage Sabrina's diabetes... :-D

Cindy,

You are doing such an awesome job. Rex and I took Marje's advice about insulin resistance and Rex's numbers are doing better.

I also got some flak about my testing frequency - but I continued! I know how Rex will react to things and I know Rex much better because of the data collected!

Keep up the good work!

And to the AWESOME GENEROUS FD Gurus - Thank You!!

I agree completely with everything Marje said.
