Good morning,
~O) ~O) ~O)
We've had a few high days clearing the last bounce....and I raised him back up to 1.5 based on his AMPS & PMPS and the few before bed checks we were able to get. I know, I know! I reduced him back down to 1.35u last night and that appears to be working.
(I just can't believe and trust that we're really at such a low dose (for Klinger)).

This morning, we're back on track.
AMPS 126 1.35u (not sure what to really call this number - hair line of space under the 1u line)
+1 98
+2 79; LC food at +2.75
+3 91
I need to find a MC & HC food that is gluten free...I found a list on Community and now I need to compare it to Janet & Binky's list. I was thinking that 9-11% was MC for Klinger, but I may reduce that down to 7-8%. He's really carb sensitive. What's your MC carb range???

Have a great weekend!

Well, as others have reminded people over the years on the board, wheat gluten is merely a protein, so should not affect BGs, however, if you look at the carb kcal% of foods with wheat gluten in them, they always appear to be higher. I contend that that's because of the sauce they put the wheat gluten in, it seems very corn starchy to me. If you look wheat gluten up on Wikipedia, there's picture which makes it look very nasty, and that in fact is what some Fancy Feast foods with wheat gluten as an ingredient looks like!

As long as you stay away from "gravy" varieties of Friskies or 9Lives, you can use varieties of those brands like Mixed Grill, Supreme Supper, Ocean whitefish of Friskies and be under 10% kcal in carbs. I just stick to under 10% as that's always been our general rule on the board.

Here's the direct link for the food charts, canned food: http://binkyspage.tripod.com/CanFoodNew.html

Thanks, Vicky. I think that's why he's been so itchy lately...he normally doesn't eat wheat gluten in his LC, but because of all the low numbers lately the MC and HC foods that I have on hand contain gluten.
The next feat will be getting him to eat a different brand.

I downloaded the Gluten free list and added a column for carbs (for Friskies and 9Lives) and will take the list with me.

+4 112
+5 92
+6 77; ate a little more of his breakfast
+7 89
+8 93

Nice numbers so far today - hope that 1.35u works. Call it whatever you want - as long as you know what you mean and it is less than 1.5u and more than 1.25u (so we can all follow along... )

I'm not sure how you would figure this, but one time I had to improvise HC/MC food by adding Karo to LC food (I didn't have any higher carb on hand). So that makes a higher carb without wheat gluten, but like I said I don't know how you figure the carbs on that. Maybe try experimenting by adding a 1/4 tsp to one ounce and see how he responds to it? I added 1/4 tsp to a 3 oz can of FF, mixed it all in and fed Beau a third of that first, then another third about 20 mins later. He was in the 30s and very slowly came up so I could probably have made it a 1/2 tsp per 1 can FF.

Not sure if that helps you at all. The handy thing about that would be that if you can figure out the proportions needed that work but don't flood his system with glucose, you could make higher carb food whenever you needed to from the reg food you have on hand.

That is a great idea or at least something to consider. Thanks, Sheila.
He had a great day! He played a few different times, purring, preening, eating, sleeping, etc. :-D
+10 107
+11 87
PMPS 117; 1.30u - a tiny bit smaller

2/27/11: We were a little bouncy this morning:
AMPS 141; 1.30 u
+2 232
+4 320
+6 189
+7 172
+9 159

Maybe he went lower over night? Should I try and hold this I.30u for a few days or decrease to 1.25u?

We saw an all white female kitty at Petsmart today....she was beautiful and it was very hard to walk away. :YMSIGH: Klinger's been the king of the castle for so long, I just don't know if that would stress him out and especially now that we're finally seeing progress. She was a sweetie.

I dont know how you tell the difference between 1.25u and 1.3u, lol, but it sounds good to me. That curve looked very typical to what we see. looking good!

Looks good!

I have a difficult time going in to pet stores like Petsmart and Petco. We got a Petco in my town last year and they had 2 adult cats in their cramped, sad cages the first time I went in there. I haven't been back since. Yes, it's very hard to walk away.

The pet store I buy food at thankfully doesn't sell or adopt out cats but they have a huge board with pictures from the local shelters. I can tolerate that a little better.

PMPS 227 - ok, I'll hold the 1.3u.
Nancy, I pull the stopper so I can see a faint line just below the 1u line. I'm calling that 1.3.

I have been in an out of Petsmart these last few months and never saw the kitty adoption section until today. DH went in with me and pointed it out and asked me if I wanted to go "look." I should have said no.

Somewhere I heard all white kitties are frequently deaf. Is that true?
I think Cody is partially blind. Its interesting how well he gets around.

I can't even look at those kitties in those cages. I feel so bad for all of them and I want to take them all home with me.

He must have dropped a little lower last night to bounce like that. But give him time to settle and get used to it.

Klinger and I thank you, Pamela! He wanted to bcatrun_gif tonight at +2 test time.

His numbers are icky today:
AMPS 129 (very nice!) 1.3u
+1 325
PMPS 334 1.3u
+2 300
